this is a problem I have had since I purchased the car. first was the idle surge witch I found was caused by a vacuum leak. I also discovered wile hunting it down a lot of the old solenoids where malfunctioning so I just deleted every thing in hopes that it fix the problems. this did not work so I started pulling every thing apart I found a bad knock and decided to remove cruise control and make my own throttle cable
why not. Ill make a thread upon request. the hot start issue still persisted so I vented the hood and bored some holes on either side of the mitsu badge on the bumper to try and improve under home temps. this did not work. so I replaced almost every essential sensor on the motor I finaly replaced the ecu temp sensor and wala problem solved. not only did this fix the problem the car feels to have more torque down low and it seems so far the under hood temps dropped and the engine running temp dropped and it runs sooooo much smoother now . the reason I made this thread was in the hopes that I could save some one a lot of time and money...
1. check for vacuum leaks
2. delete EGR and not needed emissions systems
3. replace temp sensor for ECU ( the larger 2 prong on bottom left of thermo housing, the big one on the left of housing on 2g)
4. check fuel pressure solenoid and knock sensor.
if you do these checks when you first purchase your DSM your life will be a lot easier.. thanks for the time and good luck
