Edmonton,
Hey Guys,
Well I just finished a whole bunch of installs on my car (Aeromotive AFPR, 550cc Evo Injectors, DSM Link Ecu, 255 Fuel Pump and a Rewire, as Well as a Wideband)

I tested the unit first before putting in the bigger injectors and fuel pump and it worked fine. Now, when I installed the AFPR with the stock injectors and set the base fuel without vacuum, I set it at 37 PSI and everything worked fine. I proceeded to do the injectors, the ECU and the Big Fuel Pump with a rewire.

After that I have a hesitation when I try to rev twice in a row quick, and after about 30 seconds of idling I get a check engine light. Now the really weird thing is the ECU is already calibrated for the Evo injectors, but I have not given it my first tune yet because the cable I bought doesn't work for a 1g car, but what worries me more was that CEL.

So I went to the engine bay, started checking all my install and lo and behold my base fuel pressure is at 37 PSI while idling. I can remove the vacuum hose and attach it and it makes no difference, and I can take a hex key and try and lower it, but the dial doesn't show it lowering any at all. I can raise it, but I cannot lower it. I removed and re installed the vacuum line and it did nothing. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Any Ideas Guys? I am so lost!
Thanks John

This seems to be fairly common on AWD cars. There's a siphon in the return system to link both sides of the tank and the hole inside need enlarged just a tad in order to let the fuel pressure go any lower. But honestly, is there any reason you want to go lower than 37psi ?

Are you setting the base with the hose off? The base (with the hose OFF should be 37PSI at idle on a 1G and 43.5 (43 or 44 is fine) on a 2G.

When I did my fuel upgrades I had a similar issue were my base is set at 44PSI (2G) and it would only pull down to 39PSI at idle with the hose ON (should have been 34PSI, 44-10 (20inHg=10PSI drop at 2inHG=1PSI). After a lot of head scratching and cussing I found that while I was doing a bit of work I also took the time to do some cleaning and managed to kink the vent hose for the tank (passenger wheel well) which was causing the issue. I unkinked the line and now it works as it should. 44PSI at idle w/hose OFF and 34PSI at idle w/hose ON.

I "jump in" at post 24 with my issues and fix.

I just installed mine and it is the opposite. I cant get the afpr any higher than 20psi. Im thinking it is the fuel pump, but i am open to any other suggestions.

Ok Guys, first of all they gauge I attach onto the front of AFPR is it reading in PSI? I set that to 37 Without the vacuum line on at idle. Then at idle with the line connected it should drop about 8-10 psi right? Well mine does not, but even when I do adjust it lower, the PSI will not fall as i adjust the screw on the top of the AFPR. Any ideas?

As for fuel pressure at idle with the vacuum line connected, your fuel pressure will drop 1 psi for every 2 inHg of vacuum. For example, if your idle vacuum is 20 inHg, your fuel pressure will drop 10 psi to 27 psi (assuming manual tranny) once you re-attach the vacuum line.

You can also permanently put the vacuum line on the AFPR (aka put a zip tie around it to make sure it doesn't leak). Then turn your key to ON but don't start the car and use DSMlink to turn on your fuel pump. You'll find it under ECU > Miscellaneous > Fuel Pump button.

Hey Guys!
Well I just finished installing all my upgrades (AFPR, 255lph, Evo Injectors, and Wideband, along with DSM Link which is formated for my Injectors, but NOT Tuned). Now, I started up my car and drove it a couple blocks, and every time I rev past about 3500 I get a big cloud of white smoke, as well as a check engine light. Now it runs, and idles great, but this check engine light worries me. I am going to check my PCV valve but any other ideas? Could the CEL be from just a lack of tune or what?
Thanks guys
John

Check your turbo for shaft play. Check the lower intercooler pipe for oil pooling in it. Do a compression test. Check your coolant level. Check your oil level. Use DSMLink to read the CEL. Post a log of the occurrence.

I would love to check my CEL but I do not have the right cable for my DSM Link. It is on order, but I do not have it. I am worried about the White Smoke, but everything seems to be working ok. I am going to check all my levels tomorrow morning, but the oil I checked already and it is good, and it is not milky, and the Engine is freshly rebuilt with a cometic mls head gasket, so the odds of the head gasket going after 15,000 KM are pretty slim. Anybody else got any other ideas? I was going to check the PCV Valve. Any ideas?
Thanks Guys!

So apparently the white smoke looks like it only comes when I apply throttle, and I don't know why, but I am convinced that this is just a lack of tune. It never had any of these symptoms before. The only thing that kinda scares me is the CEL. But I am sure all the installs are done correctly. As soon as I get my Keyspan Cable I will hook it up and see that the CEL light is. Still worried about the white smoke, because it never did the before the installs. I also checked all my levels, and they are fine. Any other advice guys?

Resolved Guys. Lol believe it or not, the return line was kinked when I put on the hose clamp it kinked it. Thanks though!

Solution
Check your turbo for shaft play. Under boost is generally turbo. Also pull your intake pipe check for oil.

Ok guys, This is starting to get to me.

Over like the last 2 weeks I have added some mods to my car. 255 Walboro, Aeromotive AFPR, Evo Injectors, New NGK Spark Plugs gapped to 0.28, Rewired the Fuel Pump, as well as a AEM Wideband and DSMLink.

Now I am waiting on the Keyspan adapter to use my DSMLink so I cannot pull an engine code just for reference. So I got this all installed, and everything seems to be working wonderfully. The car idles for about 2 minutes and then get a CEL. Then, when you rev once and rev again quickly, there is a hesitation. On the drive home from where I worked on it I gave it a little gas once and my girlfriend said that it shot white smoke.

Now I immediately thought coolant, so I checked resevoir, it is fine. And it can't be the head gasket cause the engine is like not even 15000k old. I checked the turbo seals and they seem fine too and it is a brand new 16g. The AFPR is working fine I set it to 37 psi without vacuum. and the fuel pump turns on and functions. Wideband is also working fine, the only thing that I can't really say if I know are working 100% are the Evo Pink top Injectors.

Also a little side note. When ECMTuning shipped me my ECU they said they set the Global and dead time for my injectors. So please tell me what to do LOL I am loosing my mind!
Thanks
John
