1g build nhra rules help

I have a 90 talon awd turbo that I'm about to start slowing building more right now I'm told I'm malling 400 hp I want to build to 500 atleast but my questions are I wanted to install a fuel cell not sure how to so its nhra legal also I wanted to install a roll bar for now our would the car run to fast with 500 hp and need a cage I was going to do roll bar for more then add for cage but do the new rules call for the cage to be chromoly or can it be mild steel and does it have to be welded by a professional thanks

Off the top of my head (will look in my rule book at home) The cage can be made out of mild steel but it has to be 1 5/8 .120 wall or chromoly 1 5/8 .83 wall. The fuel cell must be sealed in a compartment if mounted in the rear and totally seperated from the passenger compartment(that one is a fairly new rule but i will look it up some more. This is just a rought idea.

500whp could put you in the 10's@130mph with good driving. At that speed lots of track will turn a blind eye to a cage. If your serious about a cage, get a certified 10pt, so your good to like 8.50.

Fuel cell needs some sort of a metal enclosure over it with a trapdoor over it regardless of the material it is made out of.

Get a copy of the NHRA rulebook if you're serious.


Back seats DO count as an enclosure...if you have a trunk.

Rite now stock internals 550 injectors ported head arp head studs cast manifold straight 3 inch exhaust 15 ibs boost fmic gm translator cyclone intake and turbo don't know brand but compressor side 50 exhaust 48 and I was thinking just roll bar for now until I get more money because the place I'm looking to buy cage has the conversion kit that makes it to 10pt cage and can I weld the cage or does it have to be done by certified welder and would 500hp put me that fast I usually roll the car off the line to be safe so I dont break clutch or anything

This is the roll bar I'm looking at 90-94 ECLIPSE and this to convert it to 10pt cage if I short on money 90-94 ECLIPSE

Watch your build man. I learned the hardway after building up a D50 to run locally that I missed a few key ingredients to be legal for actual IHRA competition. Either bought parts that weren't up to their standards, or didn't buy parts because I didn't realize I needed them. I know the IHRA rule book can be found online, yearly, for free...I'd check around for the NHRA book online as they change from year to year. There should also be a list of items on the table to update for next years rule book as well on the NHRA home page that you'd want to look into. I'd hate for part of your build to be legal by this years standards, but not next years Good luck with the build, and make sure you start a build blog...thread...whatever is available once you get it going

I looked through it done I could only find parts of it but the way I understood it was I can run a mild steel cage my main question is does it have to be professionally welded or can I weld it and for the container for the fuel cell I need some kind of idea for a door thats legal so I can full the gas tank I'm thinking of running e85 do I need a certain fuel cell to run it
