i have a 2g eclipse with a 1g bov and just wondering.... are the 1g bov supposed to have a paper gasket on them or not. im been running my 1g bov that doesnt have a gasket for a year now and i was just wondering

It should have a gasket. Chances are your loosing a lot of boost pressure by not having one. I made mine out of some rubber but will be replacing it soon with an OEM one. You should be able to use any gasket material and make your own though.

would a paper gasket work? if i made one

If you mean the paper-like gasket material you get at Advance or elsewhere, then yes it will work just fine. I would suggest using silicone on both sides though (I prefer the grey). As for "cutting" the gasket...I used to do that too. My friend showed me the easy way and the way to make it nice, not all chewed up. Just take the BOV and put it in the vice with the flange sticking up (just clamp it enough to hold it and no more). Then hold the paper gasket material on the flange and take a small hammer and lightly tape around the inside and outside of the flange and you'll see that the flange will cut through the gasket forming a perfectly shaped, neat gasket.

I'd be a bit careful hitting aluminum corners with a hammer, as aluminum is pretty damned soft compared to steel. You can cut the gasket back so that it's a bit smaller all the way around and a bit bigger in the recirc hole so that nothing hangs out. Just trace the flange and bolt holes onto the gasket and cut 1/8 in from your outer marks and use a circle guide with a radius a bit bigger than the bolt holes to make larger marks around the traced holes. Draw a line from the two bolt hole centers, measure the center spacing and put a mark on that line right in the middle. Measure the recirc hole diameter and use the circle guide at that mark for the right diameter. If you're not in a rush, the gasket costs $2 to buy.
