Just a n00b being a worrysome PITA...I searched but didn't really find much to help me out with this.

I've got a 1g BOV on my 97 Talon, it was setup to recirculate, just like it should be, but the hose to recirculate it was RIGGED! It was crimped to hell and really didn't fit right...it was screwed up. The guy before me did it like this because the setup on my car leaves little room to do much with the hose. Anyway, I reversed the BOV, sealed the gasket with a little RTV and got a new hose that's longer and comes back around to fit the intake tube right.

The car seems a ton faster, from the looks of it I think it was also leaking boost from the BOV gasket. My problem is this, my BOV now sounds like a sequential, it didn't before. Is this normal? The thing sounds like a damn stuttering chimpmunk whenver I shift. A friend said this will screw upthe turbo if it stays like this...any explanations or advice?:confused:
 
Is it compressor surging or just blowing off all the time ? Compressor surge isn't good for the turbo, but is its not all the time you should be ok. It shouldn't be sputtering though is the vacuum line hooked up on it? Also do you have any boost leaks ?
 
what it sounds like is that its not oening fully, how much boost do you run? is it modified, are you running it off the intake manifold wih no tees.

The SSQV-like noise is most likely compressor surge. Do you have a boost gauge? At WOT have you noticed the needle for the boost gauge bouncing around wildly? If so then your valve for the BOV is not opening completely. Do you know if the BOV has previously been crushed? Do you have anything tapped into the vac line going to the BOV?
 
Hmm I have a 2g that i juts put a boost gauge on, and some times I notice that the gauge flutters, our bounces arund at WOT and full boost, it bounces at least 1-2 psi.....

Isn't the 2g stock BOV plastic or something? I was thinking about getting a hard UICP and 1g or aftermarket BOV only because I have heard of this problem... didn't know I had it... I guess?
 
While fluttering typically indicates compressor surge issues, keep in mind that a crushed BOV will sound like an SSQV when it opens under part throttle or full boost. Mine does this and it's not surging so I guess we need to ask if it's crushed or uncrushed.

It's not crushed at all, just a stock 1g bov. I've got a few upgrades on the car, I haven't seen the boost gauge go nutty at wot, it usually sees around 12lbs boost on my 16g turbo. I may have to check the vacuum lines...
 
You realize he means "crushed" as in modifying the BOV, not "crushed" as in lettin a fat chic sit on it, right?

Although that is exactly what you do when you crush it...A Crushed BOV is exactly what it sounds like.

A friend of mine was having this exact same problem and it turned out his vacuum line had a tear in it. Thats why I said check your Line.
