Resolved 1G auto rear diff identification 3 or 4 bolt?

so I cant find a answer anywhere on the internet at all... hopefully someone here can help... I have a 1g auto rear diff.. (I know for sure cause I counted the turns)... but what I dont know is if its 3 or 4 bolt... the tag on the back is completely missing... is there any other way to determine which 1 it is?

It is the axles and cups that attach to the rear hubs that tell you. If they have 4, it is a 4 bolt rear, if the axles have 3 out where they attach to the hub then it's a 3 bolt.
3 bolt axles won't fit in a 4 bolt and Visa versa. Axles have to match the differential.

there are no axles.. just the diff.. have had it 10ish years .. i do have a set of 3 and 4 bolt axles that I will try tomorrow and see which fit... thanks.

When you do figure out what it is, etch the correct #'s on the rear cover or write it on with a engraver

so I just stuck the 3 bolt axle in and sure enought it spins freely.. so I have a 4 bolt auto.. first good news ive had in awhile.. thanks for the input and help. this post is now resolved.

Mark it in some way and your good to go! Glad you figured it out. What would the rear dif number be for that? J1H?

yup J1H.. i marked it with yellow welding pen for now till I can borrow a engraver... might just weld the letters on it ..
