I have a 98 NA Eclipse. Tonight while I was driving I hit a bump and the engine just died. I cranked it over and nothing, cranked and cranked and still no fire.
So I disconnect the battery and wiggle some wires around the transmission. I reconnect the battery and as soon as I turn the key to ON I hear this rapid clicking over and over. I determine it's the relay on the firewall, farthest on drivers side closest to the hinge. While it is clicking I notice there is a clicking from the transmission, where the bundle of wires/connector bolt on to the transmission. I unplug this relay and the clicking in the transmission stops, but now the car won't shift.
I notice my SRS light, and battery light are both on, with the relay connected and disconnected. I'm not sure what happened, but I'm thinking maybe a short somewhere. A few other times when hitting bumps I've noticed the car would bog down for a split second but never had any other issues.
I grabbed another relay I had from a parts car and still clicks rapidly. Any ideas what happened? Why would this cause the SRS and Battery light to come on? Possible short somewhere?
Update.
Tonight I disconnected the battery while the car was running and my headlights exploded. They turned a bright blue and popped. So I'm sure the alternator is failing, maybe the voltage regulator. But now the next issue is with the transmission. What is it that is clicking? It only does it in park/neutral and when I put it in reverse the car pulses trying to back up. In drive/forward the car drives fine and the clicking goes away.
Any ideas?
Update:
I'd also like to note that I am getting error P0700 and P1768
