Ok so I've been digging around for awhile on various DSM sites and couldn't really find what I was looking for so I figured it wouldn't hurt to throw up a thread in this section.

Ok so currently I have an all stock 1997 Talon TSi and I'm wanting to do all the basic performance bolt-ons then focus on suspension, brakes, and rims. Then later on come back and go with a 16G setup since I have a big 16G that came with the car.

Here is what I'm looking at so far...

EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts

SPECIAL! - NEW Black NGR Type-S BOV

STOCK SIDEMOUNT INTERCOOLER PIPE KIT: 1995-99 ECLIPSE/TALON - Punishment Racing

Hallman Pro Boost Controller - Punishment Racing

Now I was wondering which eBay exhaust I should get? Don't get me wrong I'd love a Thermal but I can't see dropping that much money on a catback right now when a $200 3" catback on eBay will do the same thing for me right now. Could some of you guys rocking an eBay exhaust post up pics of it on your car? I'd most likely be painting it black anyways but I'd like for it to have the "angle" to it and look nice. Also I'd like some confirmed accounts of which aftermarket downpipe bolted up correctly to the eBay exhaust. I've read here and there of flanges being at the wrong angle and having to have cut and rewelded on.

I've read that the T25 with spike boost and boost creep with a 3in" exhaust. What should I do to prevent that? I plan on running an external wastegate when I get around to using my 16G but that'd just be overkill on a T25.

Would 15lbs of boost be doable on stock fuel system? It's my daily driver so I need it to run right and be dependable.

Thanks guys....

Dont purchase any ebay exhausts. Dont purchase a Brian Oconnor 2g dsm Exhaust from ebay the sound quality is poor as well as the stainless steel becomes dis-colored and rots out eventually. Get something that reputable. Just stay away from ebay go fast parts in general......

I have no idea where my exhaust came from. Got 3" all the way back. But it all looks beautiful and picked it up used for $80 off Craigslist. It's a bit loud (no muffler just cat and straight pipe) but I've had louder. Even a 3"hi-flow cat for it. But for my price I'm assuming it's eBay. Sound of the o2 housing (open wastegate dump) is very awesome when I reach my set boost of 15psi. 15psi is very manageable for stock fuel setup as long as everything is air tight and in good operational condition. I have a 190 wall to rewired for fuel support though. But wouldnt dare pushing it over that. With a stock pump and no rewire I'd think 10-12Psi would be sustainable.

i wouldnt go ebay i bought a megan racing 3'' down pipe and bent my own pipping from there back to the muffler and it holds up and sounds better than my buddys ebay exhaust

Im running a full ebay exhaust. For 350 for a complete 3 inch turbo back exhaust I would do it again in a heart beat. Sounds amazing, performs great and fitment was almost spot on.

Cant go wrong with ebay exhaust

Which one do you have? Can you post up some pics?

If I can manage to free up some funds then I'll nut up and buy the Thermal but as it stands right now it's bit out of my range at the moment. Anyone ever had Thermal put a 3in flange where it knecks down? I don't have any exhaust shops or welders around here I trust to redo that section. I live off in the sticks. I was thinking a Megan racing 3" downpipe bolted to a Thermal catback would be pretty legit. If I can scratch together the funds that is.

Any input on how to stop boost creep on the T25? Do you go about it the same way as with a 16G?

I'm ok with 10 to 12psi to be honest. I'm not wanting to be pushing my luck. Just wanting to enjoy my car a bit more until I get around to throwing the 16G on it.

There is nothing wrong with the majority of exhaust systems sold on eBay. Even my eBay o2 housing is holding up fine after a good 1000 heat cycles. A pipe is a pipe, dont waste your money on some fancy system that will sound nearly the same and rust out just as fast. If you ask me, spending 1k on an exhaust is pretty "Brian Oconner" itself.

Now for the performance parts that actually matter, I say skip the BOV and metal intake. The stock intake with a K&N filter and MAF adapter would be more than enough for even the 16g. A 1g BOV would also be sufficient to hold over 20psi of pressure, even more if you crush it. The hard intake pipes are good but will take some tweaking to fit the 16g after you switch. I personally wouldn't turn up the boost at all without a Wideband, but the Halman Pro is definitely a good choice.

Well it could be anywhere from 6months to a year before I get around to putting the 16G on. And when I do actually put the 16G on I'll be running a Punishment Racing FMIC setup. Once I get these few basic bolt-ons so I can focus on getting my truck 100% dependable for when I do the 16G install. I'd rather have the option of taking my time and doing everything right on this car while having a dependable daily driver to fall back on.

If you are going with a FMIC in the future then hard pipes made for the SMIC are a waste of $$$.

I didn't see a boost gauge on your list... the stock "gauge" is just a meter showing airflow measured by the ECU, not actual boost pressure. Personally, I would go with a boost gauge, wide band O2 sensor, 190 lph fuel pump K&N cone filter with adaptor, 1G BOV and the boost controller. I don't know crap about ebay exhaust systems one way or the other... pipe is pipe... but not all stainless steal is of the same corrosion resistant quality.

If you plan on putting that bigger turbo on then you should start basing what you are going to buy around what you plan on having in the future so you aren't buying something now just for temporary use. It will save you time and money in the long run to sit down and map out you expectations of the car and what you need to buy based off of that. And since this is your daily driver and you want it to be reliable I honestly wouldn't try cheaping out on things. I'm not trying to knock what anyone has said or what anyone has but in my personal experiences you ultimately get what you pay for. Just food for thought.

Ok, so Walbro 190, boost Gauge, and wideband added to the list. I'm trying to base most of my major mods around the distant future 16G upgrade. That's why I'm not trying to skimp where it counts. Such as saying screw it and get the Thermal exhaust hooked up to a Megan Racing downpipe. Also may get the Megan Racing o2 housing since I've read it'll help keep my T25 from creeping so badly. I just figured the basic bolt-ons I listed above would keep me happy until I get my suspension mods, EVO 8 Brembo brakes, and the rims I want all done. I figure if all I have to worry about replacing when I swap my T25 for the 16G is ditching the SMIC hard pipes for the front mount piping then I'll be doing fairly well.

Well just an update on the current situation. I've just purchased a K&N FIPK kit, Punishment Racing hard piping, and NGR BOV. I can't wait for all this to come in. Ran across a good deal on the FIPK and I couldn't pass on the Black Friday sales on the BOV and hard piping. My next purchases will be nick nack pieces here and there. Like a cup holder insert for my console, passenger mirror interior cap, and hopefully find a replacement for my busted fog light. Next performance/upkeep mod will be a good boost gauge (most likely a digital AEM) and when I do the full exhaust I'll get a wideband A/F gauge (most likely AEM as well).

Once those basic mods are taken care of I hope to move on to suspension/rims/stereo etc. Suspension plans are EVO brake swap, Megan Racing coilovers, camber kit, fender braces, better sway bars, strut tower braces, fresh bushings all around. I'm not 100% sure what rims I'll run maybe some black 18's with red lip and red lug nuts. Then save up funds to get this 16G on it. My hopes/plan are to make it to the next MOD.

I would suggest going with something other than Megan coil overs. Take a look in the Handling tech forum and look at some reviews. You will get mixed reviews from almost every combo except for the koni yellows/ground control set up. Those will out perform any coil over set up until you start looking at 2,000 dollar set ups.

Figured I would mention this. Have you done all the general maintenance? A better tip for ebay is don't buy anything that has moving parts (turbo, etc) an exhaust would probably be fine. Remember though there is no guarantee but some people have luck, some don't. I wouldn't want to drop a lot of money into an ebay exhaust if I had a particular preference. I just save up and get what I want the first go. That's just how I do it though...

you should be just fine at anything under 14psi unless you feel any knocks then stop immediately. I would say "log" it @14 but it seems you are bone stock practically from your pics (NICE clean 2g by the way... gorgeous engine bay). Even though I am selling a gunmetal pearlescent Turbonetics 2g SMIC LICP kit, I would still say save and go FMIC in a year over buying a NEW smic hard pipe kit. If you want mine, heck i'll sell it pretty cheap even though its in reallly good shape. I have pics PM me if interested.

Start with timing belt, water pump, general cleanup. Buy DSMlink and then worry about parts that impress other people.

I agree. I might add one thing. Dont go crazy. Keep all parts you remove. Consider leaving the car stock. Its worth more in trade or sell. Ive been down this exact road. Keep you car stock.
I know thats not a popular opinion around here. But it is worth considering.

i agree definately do all the maint before modding. also i have a 3" ebay exhaust and as long as you keep it clean it will last a long time.

Get full new timing/tension pulleys and timing belt/WP put on first, which is a good 600$ after parts and labor. Its a lot of $ but worth it, because everytime you put your foot down youll have peace of mind.

Dont be one of those DSMs that ends up in a junk yard because you wanted to throw money at mods before maintenance. Timing belt broken = ruined motor.

Keeping a vehicle stock is not the kind of person I am. I didn't get the car with intentions to resale it or ever get rid of it for that matter. I appreciate your input though. I will be keeping all the original parts no doubt.

The previous owner has the timing belt changed around 30k miles ago so I've got around 30k more miles before I really have to worry about that bit of maintenance. I've always kept up with oil changes on all my vehicles. My truck, car, and bike always get pampered. I'm one for tasteful useful mods on all my mods so I can represent that group the best I can.

I'll keep that info about your suggested suspension route in mind when I cross that bridge.

DSMlink is in my plans as well. It will be done shortly after I get the full exhaust actually.

Whats all this crap from when this was started about ebay..

Especially ebay exhaust..Mines a megan, perfect fit in the stock hangers..Not very loud at all:(

Ebay intake, ebay ic pipes. The kit the op posted was the pr kit, or ebay pr kit, everything else was legit.Stop giving this guy a hard time.

He's got a 97 tsi he wants to mod, for the love of god help him..
