Is it possible to build boost the 420a? If not am I able to keep the same tranny and swap to the 4g63? This is my first car and I'm really interested in making it cool, clean, and somewhat fast

This question has been asked for 30 years. Plase start here. https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/2g-dsm-upgrade-paths.486217/

no. The motor isn't even on the same side.

Most of us will tell you keep it stock, enjoy it and look for a 4g63 car. If you want to increase the fun factor, quality suspension and tires are my personal recommendation.
somewhat fast???....probably not.

Yea, most of us are tired of sharing redundant information. We're always here to help but typing the same thing for years gets old.

It's entirely possible to boost the 420A, and many have had great success doing so. It's a considerable investment though. Doing it properly requires a list of modifications. If this is your first & only car, it may not be the best idea.

The 420A can be a reliable powerhouse if it's torn down and built from the bottom up with the right parts and machine work. The problem is, you may not have the skills and experience to do it yourself. Leaving it with a shop is a huge gamble. You'll probably be missing the car for way too long and end up with the wrong parts.

You should start small and learn as you go. First thing is tackle maintenence. Get that experience under your belt and make sure the entire car is healthy. When you're ready, move on to basic bolt ons and learn your way around the engine. Get your bearings on how everything functions, the purpose of each part, and how to properly disassemble/assemble everything. Then you can move on to bigger & better modifications. But again, no matter what your approach is, it is a considerable investment to make the 420A a fun and reliable powerhouse.

Here's a thread I started a while back to loosely document 420A upgrades and information. It adds some modern detail to old information and personal experiences. It isn't primarily focused on boosting a 420A but provides good information to start with. And like I said, boosting your first car shouldn't be the only thing on your mind.

And Paul is correct, a good set of tires and springs can go a long way with how the car feels and performs. Aside from that, look into the frontward engine mount bolt upgrade. There's a how-to on 2gnt.com and I think I posted something similar here on these forums. It will help deliver more power to the ground and solidify the feel of the drivetrain.

I could go on and on saying what you should and shouldn't do, and how or how not to do it. But first, put in your homework and do some research. Learn to navigate the site, and invest in the 420A subforums. You can learn a lot just from that. The rest is hands on experience.
