I just threw a 7 bolt from a 97 gsx into this talon tsi and I also removed the egr crap and blocked the vacuums. Its starts and idles fine but has black smoke coming from the exhaust because of extreme richness as it blackens the plugs and sputters under load. What am I missing here it has to be something stupiod FIAV issue or issues with the egr as I am not using a block off plate like I said I ripped out the canister and plugged the ports.

It seems about you have a boost leak on the engine sir. All the symptoms you described seem to be a boost leak. I can almost gauruntee one of your couplers are loose!

I went thru the system and made sure there are no boost leaks and checked the ignition system but still under boost its like it misses a little and it not working properly. Its a ebay turbo I am thinking the turbo is shot but would that cause it to just seem like a little miss?

maybe an exhaust manifold crack, or gasket leak. if exhaust can exit before the o2 sensor, then air can also enter, thus causing the o2 to see more air, thinking the system is running lean. the subsequent effect is the ecm riasing the short term fuel trim and it will run rich.this is a possible cause. another could be a bad o2. if you are sure there are no boost leaks then i would check that. the easiest way i found to test for exhaust leaks is with a good ol' can of seafoam. hope this helps

Do you have a CEL?

I would suspect a bad o2 sensor if the trouble the trouble goes away under heavy acceleration shortly after the ecu has been reset (short term trims are unused during open loop operation but long term fuel trims have an affect). Alternatively a bad or hacked MAF could cause problems. Does you maf still have its honeycombs in?

Also for general advice I would suggest that you return your egr system to an operational configuration. Not all emissions devices are bad from a performance standpoint and this is one of them. You will see better fuel economy, a less sooty engine, and less unpredictable abberant behavior by maintaining the egr.
