1991 eclipse running issue.

I picked up a 1991 eclipse base model the other week, and I've had nothing but headaches. the current issue has me stumped. If the MAF is plugged in, and I start the car, I need to feed it gas, otherwise it dies. And if you try driving it with it plugged in, it bucks horribly. If you unplug it, it runs fine, just sets the CEL. Now for the wierd part... if you drive it for a while unplugged, (~30 mins) and then plug it in with the car running, everything works as it should. No CEL, no bucking, etc. I've already replaced, plugs, wires, Coolant temp sensor (both), distributor, headgasket, and MAF. (Distributor and MAF are out of a junkyard) ECU checks out fine. The only thing i noticed is the new MAF didnt have a honeycomb section like the other one. Any insight? This is frustrating me, I cant think of what else it could be.

What code do you show on cel, logger, perhaps need to know what the code is, rather than spending money on hit or misses.

All the codes are maf related. 12, 13, 15, and 25

Use the manual and find out what they are fix them then clear the codes, or google the codes that has to be done first so get started.

all of the codes go away with the MAS sensor plugged in. all those sensors are in the MAS unit. and code 15 was because the iac wasnt plugged in

Well replace the maf.

already did. does the same stuff.
yet it will work if i start the car with it disconnected, then connect it after 20 mins of driving

Check the wiring going to the maft sometimes it corrodes and breaks internally.

You said it was missing the honeycomb,meaning you are using the wrong one.
Either it was modded or just is not the factory unit.
Replace with the correct one and do an ohms test on the wires for shorts.
