hello excuse my newbieness. im looking into buying a 91 eclipse gsx. this will be my first dsm. im interested in learning more about these neat little cars. this one has a professionally rebuilt 4g63 bored .20 over. motor has about 15 miles or so. its got a rebuilt transmission. this car is a 5 speed awd. this guy had tried to wire in a walbro 255 with stock injectors and a stock turbo. with the stock fuel pump it ran and drove fine. now, with the 255 installed it will crank, turn on, and even idle fine until you try and press the gas then it dies. guy only wants $500 and the body is suppppper clean. any ideas before i buy it and have it towed to mudpit racing in dallas? thanks guys any input is much appreciated. post or pm me thanks.-Justin

I see no reason for changing the fuel pump from stock if otherwise the car remains stock (outside of the slight overbore). If you know it's fine with the OE, just re-install it and drive home. (The higher pressure pump is only useful with larger injectors and unless you make other changes requiring that, there's just no need for that pump.)

I would personally not take anyones word on a BUILT engine, unless they can prove it. Receipts, but even then its a risk. All you can do is pull off that valve cover and oilpan. Alot of people don't want to do it. So I stick them with a lowball and they take it. I get home pop the oilpan off 3 minutes later. Behold new rods and pistons.

The 255 fuel pump is overrunning the stock fuel pressure regulator. You need an aftermarket/adjustable FPR to control the fuel flow from the 255 or you need the original pump or a smaller aftermarket pump like a 190.

500$ Is a steal man. I would take that even if you have to tow it home. Worse comes to worse and you could actually make money parting it out and having the shell crushed. But in all likely hood, some 1g guy would buy a clean awd shell off you for at least 500.

I ran a walbro 255 in my first (bone stock) dsm many many years ago with no adjustable fuel pressre regulator and didn't experience any problems like this as do many other people on this forum. If there is a huge vacuum/boost leak I could see this possibly being an issue. In all honesty this deal seems too good to be true. This built motor and rebuilt tranny most definitely cost him more than $500 and the fact that a clean 1g dsm shell with no motor or tranny usuallly sells for more than $500 alone would lead me to believe that he might know more about the problem than he's telling you. Even still if the body is as clean as you say it is its def worth $500 even if you have to drop another motor in it. That is of course my opinion LOL.

Spend a couple bucks and get a good FPR so u dont over run the stock one. Also i would check to see if the pump was wired correctly. But over all sounds like a good deal if it actually starts up and runs that cheap. FPR's are easy to install as well and sum are cheap.

Buy this! a gsx that runs for 500 bucks!?! I dont know what g4ebguy90 meant by lowball them and they will take it, how can you lowball a 500 dollar car?! LOL. replace the 255 with the stock fuel pump and your good to go. Also, as g4ebguy90 said, I wouldnt take anyones word for anything with these cars unless they can produce receipts for sure. Everyone always says ohhhh the body has 130k and the motor has 20 k since the rebuilt. yea ok, that gets old real quick after years in this game. Sure many times its true, but people just try to yank your chain. Plus, why was it rebuilt? Find that out too. Either way, buy the car, LOL.
