hey guys, i need help, please bear with me because it not that good with english, i have a 1990 GSX, the ecu was fried so i change it for another one that i bought from a user here at dsmtuners, it was in excellent shape, i put it on and my car started just fine, i took it for a ride arround the block to check that everything was fine, came home, park it and kind of smelled something fishi ROFL anyway i took out the ECU again and it looks a little fried at the botton of one of the caps and also some of the parts arround it look fried to, i tried to take a picture but they dont look good :( anyways im going to post them and mark the parts were it looks fried, maybe you can help me.

In the following pictures i marked were the parts look like fried :ohdamn: the car stills turns on, but its going to probably end up messing again with the ecu, can somebody tell me what this part of the ecu does? and what can i do to prevent this from happening, thanks.

The parts that look burned are, R44 C106 C37 C38 C22 i think that might help, as i said before the car stills runs so the ecu its not completely bad yet, but im not gonna use it until i know whats wrong.

looks like you have a short in the wiring or a blown fuse somewhere. Check the connector pins too if they are bent or missing.

If you switched to a 91+ ecu you have to switch pins 6 and 14.

1G ECU Pinouts

Im not sure that would cause your problem though....send the old 90ecu to dsmlink, im sure they'll be able to tell you whats going on

I also call it a shorting out issue.

You got 5vdc heading to a sensor from the ECU (or, a sensor that isnt there now and the plug's just dangling there)and that 5vdc is shorting to ground somewhere which blows the crap out of the drivers in the ECU..

i checked the ecu conectores and seem fine, i didnt find any blown fuses, do you think a lack of good ground can cause this? i dont know if it has to do with anything but i guess it couldnt hurt to ask.

By the way, im not from the US and for my bad luck send in the ECU to ECM its out of the question.

Take a pic of the board and post it up here. You could have a problem with your idle air control motor which will fry the idle control circuit in the ecu. It is somewhat common.

Where do you think you have a bad ground? It's possible to have these problems without a solid ground.

well my radio turns off when a put it really loud, i was thinking it was because a lack of ground and it also might be messing with everything else since its near the ECU, i also conected my wideband to cigarrete lighter so it might need more ground :hmm: i dont know, im just trying to figure out whats wrong.

I posted one on my first post but it doent show anymore, weird, anyways heres another one, i dont know if it helps, crappy cel camara, thats the area where it looks almost fried, my gsx still turns on so its no completly bad, i read something about if the ISC is bad that could kill the ECU but i dont have idle problems.

Thanks for the pics. The area you show will go bad from old leaking capacitors. It's a common problem with old ecu's. It's easy to fix by replacing the caps. FYI the caps are 3 black cylinder shaped components. Here's a good tech article 89-94 Capacitor Replacement

If the ISC was shorted, it would burn out the ISC drivers, which are the 6 black rectangular shaped parts on the right side of your pic just below the green rectangular shaped parts. If they short out they expand from the heat and look roundish.

Thanks for the link pneumo, i was planing on replacing the caps as soon as everything works fine, but this happend before haha the ISC drivers are perfect, i still dont know what almost fried the ecu =S the ECU looked perfect when i got it.

It's definitely the caps if you smelled the fish:sneaky: every bad cap i've ever replaced, auto or not has smelled like that
