So my friend wanted to get into the DSM game so I found him this car for $1200. It was a hell of a steal with the parts on it. Well he trailers it back and I go to look at it. A lot of it is ghetto rigged and it needs a lot of small work done to it. So lately I have been working on it and trying to teach him all about DSM's. But here is some pictures along with a list of what needs done and problems I need to address.

Is this DSMLink a knock off? SteveP said it is out of a 91/92 VR4 and could possibly be a keydriver chip. I tried to connect numerous times and keep getting "command timed out" The car seems to run decent for the lack of tune but I know there is a difference from 90 to 91-94 and I'm not sure if this guy just lied his ass off about it or what. I really hope its the right one because I got ####ed out of $400 for it because I accidentally sent him the money twice so it came out of my pocket because he wouldn't send it back even after I filed 3 claims with paypal and ebay I didn't see any of it back.

I don't know but it doesn't look bad at all for 1200 bucks. It seems like it has an ebay 50trim but what a heck beat it until it dies. I don't really see anything ghetto rigged besides the wires hanging out by the fuse box but the car seems in a pretty good shape from the engine wise.

Mods:

PTE 60-1
PTE 880cc
FMIC
Walbro 255
Newly rebuilt motor:
1g Rods
2g Pistons
P&P Head

DSMLink V2???
Came with MAF-T but got it sold already
A ton of extra stock and aftermarket parts

Things it needs:
Paint job!
Tap Pressure Source for MBC
Buy MBC
Fix Vacuum Lines
Get Vacuum Caps
Spark Plugs
Recirc Hose
Wire in AEM Uego
Fix Downpipe issue
Figure out why power steering is bubbling out of the top (might just eliminate)
Bleed clutch or replace slave and master
Oil Catch can
Figure out why the RPM's aren't working

Also, the numbers I got off of the Eprom chip are:

M27C256B-12B1
5L8F1
O251L
PHIL

Has an "ST" trademark on the left side. Hard to make out the numbers because of the "HECTOR2" over top of it.

What TB is this? I thought it was a 1990 but the manual was saying there should be 4 vacuum ports on top but there isn't there is 2 on top and 2 on the side. One of my friends just said to cap them all off and all the places they run too. Will that affect anything at all? Also, there should be a thermo valve but I am not seeing any ports at the T-stat housing for it.

Anyone know what I could use here to recirculate it? They are not the same size outlets on the BOV and intake pipe so I need something that can be compressed to fit on.

It's actually a PTE 60-1 quite a quality turbo but known for leaking seals. None of the charge pipes are beaded. They had the MAF-T on the Intake Pipe. There were no vacuum lines from the TB hooked up and they weren't capped off either. They just snipped everything from the charcoal canister but didn't remove it. There are a few wires here and there that aren't connected. They used about a 2 foot piece of coupler instead of using a pipe off of the compressor housing. Maybe I'm just too picky but I am fixing all this little shit before I do anything more with it.

My guess is that is not a DSMlink chip. They normally have stickers on them that say DSMlink and a serial number. The sticker covers the whole EPROM chip.

Thanks for the Link. I was hesitant about it when it first came in but I thought I'd give it a try. I wonder if there is a way to find out what is installed on the chip and possibly sell it to someone that would have the setup because I know the ECU works because the car starts with it but I can't connect no matter what I do.

Looks like a '90 throttle body to me. The '91-'94 throttle bodies had the 4 ports across the top.

That'd be it. I was looking in the Chilton's manual he had and it was showing 4 ports across the top so I couldn't figure out which ones went where because of it being 2 on the top and 2 on the side. If I can just cap all these off it'd make it a lot easier as long as there isn't any bad effects from it and its just all emissions BS, anyone know?

Message back from Jeff about the chip, big waste of my money.

> Yes, that does look like a chip I did for Hector a LONG time ago. Its 4-5 years old, very outdated.

Well, the problem is that I don't see a Hector 3 chip on my drive. It was probably a quicky I send someone to replace a chip they broke, or a small change they asked for, or one of several chips I sent at one time for them to evaluate. I think it might be similar to this one:
keydiver
05/07/03
NO FUELCUT
8000 RPM REV LIMITER
E943
5000 RPM STUTTERBOX
KNOCK GAUGE
A/C CUTOUT AT 90% TPS
OCTANE RESET AT STARTUP
REVISED KNOCK
HECTOR2
Basically, stock GVR-4 everything, with no fuelcut, a knocksum gauge, and stutterbox. Not really worth anything IMHo.Jeff O.dsmchips.com

Does anyone know where to get the noise filter? I can't find it on JNZ, I will try to call them tomorrow though.
