I've been interested in a 1g DSM for a while but have been reluctant in the past. This might be the time where I finally commit to buying one but I wanted to see if this car I found was a good build and if its worth it.
I have found a red 1990 GSX 5 speed with 131,000 miles and these mods done:
"stock AWD drive line rust free body, clear coat fading, dented hood, cracked windshield, otherwise body is in great shape rebuilt motor 2.3L stroker motor 272 cams wiseco pistons eagle crankshaft eagle piston rods hy35 holset turbo FP exhaust manifold JM fab intake manifold front mount intercooler stainless intake piping stainless 2.5" exhaust 1100cc fuel injector clinic injectors whalbro 450 fuel pump tial wastegate tial BOV mishimoto radiator spal electric radiator fans E85 fuel speed density tuned flex fuel sensor tien coils KYB struts Car drives great, all work was done by Big 3 Performance, Beyond Redline Performance Center, and Tier 3 Performance. A lot of time and money invested in project, all work done properly. All work done within 5000 miles"
this is what the owner says on the ad. The price is $5500 right now and I'm curious if this is built right. The hood is faded and the windshield is cracked(for what it's worth) any comments are greatly appreciated as I'm t sure where to begin with a good build of a GSX.

P.S. if I've made any mistakes in posting this please let me know.

I think it’s a pretty good looking car, looks a lot like mine LOL. I would ask him why he’s selling and for any receipts on the engine build. Also read up as much as can you on things to look out for when buying a dsm. There’s a great video on you tube by Jason Drew on “10 things to know when buying a dsm”. Mine was closer to stock when I bought it, and I bought it from a friend of a family member so it came from a trusted source with no issues. This car would be a hopeful good buy, because it sounds like it’s already “built”. As far as things that jump out to me is there’s no mention of tuning, it must have ecmlink or something to be running on speed density, also that’s not an fp exhaust manifold, looks like a tread stone t3, as an hy35 isn’t available in a bolt on housing, otherwise man the pics look good, again just ask him why he’s selling and educate yourself as much as you can before looking at it:thumb:

Thanks for the reply! I’ve been on the forums and watching videos about what to look for! He told me he’s selling it because he has a baby on the way and needs the money, also said he has receipts of the parts! As for looking at it, the issue is it’s about 6 hours away from me. If it was closer I would have no hesitation to check it out. That’s why I thought I’d get some opinions on the build. Now there’s another one about 5 hours away from me that’s bone stock(from what I can tell) the car was in a storage unit and the people who owned the car didn’t pay to the owner of the storage unit owns it now. Has a random assortment of spare parts with it but does have some body damage. Not a crash or rust but looks like white milky patches around some areas on the fender. Maybe it was rust and someone waxed over it leaving patches?

I actually just bought this car 2 days ago and stumbled upon this post. The car is awesome, needs some clear coat fading fixed and a new windshield but the car is %100 rust free and pulls like a train.
