Why would you want 215s on a such a wide wheel? I am running 17x7 and 245/45/r17 The grip is amazing compaired to the 205/55/r17 that were on the wheels before.
You are the opposite from the OP, but just about as silly as he is. Shoving 245s onto a 7" wheel is nothing to be proud of. The poor schmuck who did the job should be proud, but not you for asking him to do it.
Maybe you guys can meet up in some random place - such as in NJ, on the border with NY - and swap tires or swap wheels BUT NOT BOTH. Heads, he gets 215 tires on 7" wheels; tails he gets the 245s on 9"s.
Note: You might need some of those offset-adding spacers that you told us about to get them to fit on the car without rubbing. Or maybe you'll need the normal spacers that move the wheel outwards.
