16g turbos

Hi I have a quick question concerning 16g turbos. So my buddy has an eBay big 16g and it's needing a rebuild. What the question is, can put a small 16g cartridge in it instead of the big 16g because I have one laying around my garage I can spot him if it is possible. Let me know thanks!
