my evo-III stock wategate is stupid and wont blow off, if i push my car, my psi will go up to about 10psi and i can feel the engine start to bog down. and if it goes up to 15 the thing starts to stutter because of the fuel pump. every shop i take it too says its the wastegate spring being too strong. i need some real help:D

-keep in mind im going to college so i have little amount of money

also on a side note, my watepump leaks out of this little hole, any advise on that?

thanks.

Run a dedicated line from your boost source directly to the wastegate actuator and see if that cures your problem. Are we talking about a Genuine MHI Evo III or one of those eBay knockoffs with the adjustable actuator arm?

Your water pump is about to fail. Change the pump along with the timing belt, timing belt idler and tensioner pulleys, timing belt auto-tensioner, and accessory belts.

No offense, but if you're a poor college student who isn't fairly mechanically-inclined, you're driving the wrong car.

i have aftermarket fmic, bov, headers, intake, downpipe and exhaust, mbc. and the boost controller did nothing, i tried a different boost controller over at ECS performance but still nothing.

i did fear for the worst on the waterpump, do i really have to take that motor mount off just to get to the pump or is there an easier way to do it?

aslo, to respond to killer eclipse i have the punishment racing downpipe which eliminates the cat.

Thought so.

Your problem lies in the size of the wastegate hole in the housing....the Chinese are nice enough to give you a 34mm flapper, but they cleverly forgot to make the wastegate hole larger than a dime:

You need to port the wastegate hole to take advantage of the larger flapper if you want to gain control of your boost level:

That's not making your situation any better. Too little exhaust restriction is the main cause of boost creep.

You need to take off a lot more than the motor mount....like the timing cover(s), the timing belt, the timing belt tensioner arm, etc. This is why it's recommended to do a timing belt service when you're changing the pump, or vice versa.

okay so if i port the hole that will fix my problem?

and yes i do plan on getting a different fuel pump, i only drive this car for fun its not my daily driver so theres no rush on getting all these mods at once.

Yeah porting the wastegate passage should clear up that problem. I have mine ported out with the 34 mm flapper and it only creeps about 1 psi, 2 psi at most. Keep in mind I also have a full 3" exhaust with no cat.

You're sort-of in a Catch 22...if it were a MHI turbo, I'd tell you just to leave the flapper alone and do the mods necessary to allow you to run enough boost that creep will not be a problem (somewhere around 20psi). If you try that on your eBay turbo, it's lifespan will be cut very short.

It's sort-of a pain-in-the-ass to tear the turbo off the car just to port the wastegate hole....this is something I try to caution guys against before they install an eBay turbo to begin with so they're not left in your situation.

What you're experiencing is definitely boost creep, and it's definitely caused by too small of a wastegate hole and too little exhaust restriction. The steps you take to go about fixing the problem are entirely up to you.
