I have a 96 talon tsi with a 6 bolt swap, dsmlink and other supporting mods. Recently I installed a 16g. My stell braided return line from my T25 wouldn't fit so I used the one I got with the turbo from a buddy, and it was kind of a ghetto setup and leaked. So tonight I slotted the holes on the one from my T25, since its -6 steel braided line and a lot nicer then the garden hose set up. The install went pretty smooth and I fired the car up and oil is coming out of the o2 housing now? I don't know if this return line is too small or what? The turbo hasn't leaked oil until right now. I did a test to see if the wastegate was good, could that of messed something up? Also when the car was running I added half a court of oil. Could the oil of got in the tube that runs from the valve cover to the intake?
I need help quick.
Thanks

I dont know about stock return lines but aftermarket ones are -10an which is 5/8 of an inch. Your return might be too small, 3/8 vs 5/8.

The line that runs from the valve cover to the intake manifold would/should be pcv system. That oil would end up in your intake manifold, coating it but would mostly burn in the combustion chamber before getting to your o2 housing.

You turbo could be seeping oil since you have too much being fed to it. If it can not return fast enough it could be backed up and passing by the seals.

To be honest, this is my best guess, someone with more experience with turbos/turbo failure, oil feed etc, should post on here.

goodluck

It's the little rubber hose that comes off the left side of the valve cover(in front of cam sensor) and goes into the intake tube of the turbo.

out of the o2 housing? i have the t25 stock oil return and i also slotted the bolt holes and it doesnt leak at all just use the oem gasket . . .

I thought it would be plenty enough since it did fine with my T25. The oil leaked out of where the o2 housing bolts to the turbo and was dripping down to where the downpipe bolts up and down my o2 dump. I am gonna try and put the rigged set up back on to see if that works. :banghead:

-6an is way to small for a oil drain. I have a -10an drain line for my 16g. Check for shaft play on the turbo, and try to find any oil leaks.

But -6 is good enough for a T25?
No shaft play at all. Like I said, turbo never smoked or anything with the other return line. I just got sick of leaking oil so I put the old set up back in and now it pours oil out of the turbo. I'll try to make the other return line not leak and put that one back on and see if the turbo still smokes.

That would let oil pass into your intercooler piping (the charged air system). You sould see it build up at the most bottom parts, intercooler and lower piping. I dont think it would reach you o2 housing this way.

It's too small or blocked. Once the oil cannot make it out of the turbo CHRA (drain) it needs to go somewhere so it exits through the "piston ring" seal on the exhaust side of the turbo.

So most likely I have a clogged drain? I bought a real 16g and it did the same thing so i'm looking at the drain now. The gasket I had was a little too small and was blocking part of the opening on the return. I cut the gasket and will try again.

Let me get this straight...you're using a 3/8" I.D. drain in place of the 3/4" I.D. drain which came on the car stock and wondering why oil isn't draining properly?

A -6AN drain is only one size larger than the -4AN aftermarket feeds that are used on our cars.

No, I put the -6 on it to see if that would stop it leaking from the turbo to the pan, but then figured out that was too small and fixed the -10 so it wouldn't leak and now all is good there. I thought the problem was oil, but I just started the car and water is leaking from the o2 housing/ where it meets the turbo.
What could be causing this? Is it just condensation? I only let the car run for 15 seconds because I don't want to ruin the turbo.
