ok im in need of serious help, i have my 16g bolted on to my 2g as of RIGHT NOW, everything is hooked up ok, except that i forgot that i need a jpipe and the oil return line, i had a ss line made from a local ss oil company by my house. I need my car runing desperately soon, my local area sucks for performance parts everyone around here is honda crazy, so could i get parts maybe from a dealer for my car to install. Would i 1g oil return line fit for the 16 instal, and does the 14b have the same fitting for a jpipe? suggestions please... TY

you can use a j pipe from a 14b but i'd upgrade it when you can. The 1g oil return line should work but i just modified my 2g to fit so i dont know for sure. Make sure you prime the turbo correctly.

if your using a stock intercooler the the stock pipe will work it just takes a little streching of the lower intercooler piping hose. also you can use the 1g oil return line...

prime the turbo? sorry i would like to upgrade the parts but crap for performance shops in the area and dealer is only lead for now. what year 1g should i look for?

is a jpipe really called a jpipe, because my local dealer is an idiot. i will pick up the 1g oil return line. please help!!! sorry im scared and under pressure to finish,

prime the turbo?

The turbo is dry. You need to get oil to the center section before you fire up the engine. Disable the ignition and fuel (there are a couple of ways to do this) and turn the motor over for 10 seconds. Wait 30 seconds to let the starter cool. Repeat 2 more times. I'd check for oil leaks at that point (oil feed and return, both ends of each). Then un-disable the engine and you're good to go. I'd check again for oil leaks after getting the motor up to full oil pressure (after starting the engine).

i got your pm man....

yes prime the turbo before you start this. i dont know if 2g's have this but i pull the mpi fuse on my 1g. which is located at one of the battery terminals on 1g's.

yes let your starter cool after long crankings. you can get it hot and screw it up. 30 seconds to a minute is ushally enough time for this.

i wouldnt personally buy a "stock" J-pipe from the dealer. u could probably go to a place like dejon tool, buscher racing, or RRE and get a 2" or 2 1/2 inch pipe which is WAY bigger then the stock unit on a 1g for the same price

if you have any more questions just ask!

Turbo outlet pipe to be exact, the after market pipe is called J-pipe because it's in the shape of a upside down J.

NEED MORE HELP!
Ok this is the latest i just finished installed the rest of the crap since the dealer did not know what the @#$% was a jpipe i amanged to make one out of parts from the local autozone, i primed the turbo, then after 30 min or so fired the engine, i drove around stable nothing major, however i know i have a boost leak, my gauge showed -25 at idle i know it has to be around -20. Secondly upon inspection i noticed that the turbo was smoking a bit. Also when i drove it it would not rise above 4-5psi on the boost gauge. Suggestions to fix! Please and if there are any locals around southern cali i would appreciate the help if someone could come down to look at it. Also i need a decent jpipe my fabrication look wack! i will post pictures in 1 hour. THNX

If your J-pipe fab is that messy, that could be leaking boost. Make a boost leak tester and join the ranks of "I'm sick of doing boost leak tests!" like the rest of us. Check all the piping, BOV gasket, TB gaskets, injector insulators (lower seals), BISS, TB shaft seals, vaccuum lines, and PCV valve. There's gotta be a doozy somewhere.

Smoking from your turbo might just be PB blaster or antiseize in the turbo/mani threads or O2 sensor, or just oil filth from handling it which is normal, but it could also be an oil or coolant leak, so I'd check your oil lines (both) on both ends and your coolant lines for leaks.

Agreed....chances are your fabrication skills earned you a big fat boost leak!

You are in SoCal....RRE is in Santa Fe Springs I believe. Go there and buy a J-pipe from them. Then we can have a thread about how tiny the front office is! Hooray!

Ok, im just scared that about my oil pressure i would like to know how it can be checked? im sorry but i haven't gotton around to purchasing a oil pressure gauge which i know i should be what other what can i check it, and um... whats normal? Secondly, MY FABRICATED JPIPE is well stupid i will update pics so we can all laugh. I nEED a jpipe, but because i really don't want to be driving my car until it runs smooth, i have to drive my fathers 4runner but due to insurance reasons i can't drive it far. Thats why i need to acquire the part locally. I will hit the junk yards tomorow looking for a jpipe off a 1g. I have 1 more question off the wastegate of the turbo where should i link it to? I have connected a t fitting of bov and connected it there. do i have it connect right?

It has been discussed forever, but the bottom line is that you shouldn't run your MBC off of your BOV vaccuum line. If you have a nipple on the compressor housing, the MBC should connect to that and the WGA (make sure you don't get it backward). As I recall, the 16g doesn't have a nipple on the housing and you need to install one in the J-pipe - but then we have the whole I-need-a-j-pipe mess.

You will also most likely get compressor surge with your BOV recirculation tube pinched like shown in the second picture.

Also, unless you find a modded car in the boneyard, it won't have a j-pipe, as they are aftermarket pieces only. Which may explain why the dealer had no idea what you were talking about.

Ok, again i must ask...

how can oil pressure be checked?

and where is the proper connection for the vacum line of the wasgate?

The only way to know what your oil pressure is, would be to hook up an accurate gauge, either one for servicing (garage or dealer), or an aftermarket one. For the price of having it checked, you could probably buy one. One somewhat accepted rule of thumb for oil pressure is 7-10 psi per 1000 rpm, FWIW. The best place to tap for the wastegate is as close to the compressor as possible. When you order the j-pipe, order it with this fitting.
