ok i was planning on trying this out and wanted to see what yall thought about it!

i know theres a thread one here already close to what im looking on doing but its talking about putting the 16g compressor WHEEL in the 14b housing! Causing you to have to bore out the housing alittle to match the size of the 16g wheel!

Well i was looking at getting the 14b...replacing the 14b compressor wheel and housing with the 16g and ofcourse getting it balanced! (Found a place does it for 60 bucks plus shipping)
This way i still have a fast spool and get alittle better topend power!

and i know yall are going to say its not going to be that much more power or something!
and i understand that but for $60... thats some cheap power!

i have everything to rebuilt the turbos... and have both 16g and 14b so....??.... I think it would be fun just to do!!
but thats me!

thanks for reading!

read up :hellyeah: and happy boosting! dsm-onster posted the answer to your question...

quoting dsm-onster from the thread above...

"We're talking about putting a larger turbine housing on the 14b. The 14b comes stock with the 6cm^2 turbine housing. The OP is wishing to upgrade to the 7cm^2 16g turbine housing. Which is possible and somewhat common. The 14b and the 16g share the same td05h turbine wheel.

The 14b and 16g share the same td05 compressor cover. There is a difference in the inlet bore and they housing is cut for different compressor wheel. Due to the later, you cannot just install a 16g cover onto a 14b turbo. Nor should you bother, since the a/r and volute orientation is the same. It would not be an upgrade. As well, upgrading compressor covers generally provide minimal increases in performance and usually going to a different cover is done to deter surge. Something of which a 14b has no issue. You CAN gain a broader map, increasing the choke flow slightly by using a larger compressor cover. But this usually comes with a sacrefice of lower efficiency. Big 16g compressor wheel in the td06 compressor cover and in the td05 compressor cover.

The 14b compressor wheel in the stock 14b/16g compressor housing flows 34lb/min in typical ambient conditions. But squeezing that flow through the 6cm^2 td05h hotside would be a difficult feat. Possible I suppose. But the small difference in lag going to the larger turbine housing is worth seeing that 34lb/min airflow at a lower, less knock happy boost, with less backpressure to heat the combustion chamber."

The 14Bs have the Flat Back compressor wheel.

The 16Gs have the Super Back(Beveled) wheel.
