I'm doing a very budget friendly 14b install and the only thing I need now is an oil feed. I have two options at this point:

A: I have a few SS braided clutch lines in good condition. Would it be safe to run the pictured line? If so, will standard hardware fittings work as adapters to the ofh and turbo?

You must be logged in to view this image or video.

B: I also have a oem 1g 14b oil feed line. I've read that this can be bent to fit and run oil from the 2g head with a ofh plug. I have two questions about this method. Where is the head oil feed port on a 2g? Where can I purchase a OFH plug?

Thanks all. I have everything else to complete this project, just need oil line help.

I just went through this on mine. The oil feed is on the front passenger corner of the head. Just like the 1g. As for a plug I drilled and tapped the adaptor that the stock 2g oil feed line ran into. Popped in the appropriate sized bolt with a crush washer, knock on wood no leaks so far. And so I'm clear I removed the plug before drilling and tapping. Hope that helps some.

My vote goes for feeding from the OFH. A little more expensive but worth it in my opinion. Clean oil and never have to wonder if it is getting enough. You can buy SS oil feed lines for 2g w/ 16g style turbos with the appropriate BSPT fitting AND a inline filter for around $70 bucks. Install it and don't look back.

I know that would be optimal, but that wasn't my question. I'm going to school full time and now trying to raise money for my SkillsUSA National Welding fabrication competition, so I really need to keep this as low cost as possible. I know oil from the head will be more than fine for a 14b- its stock on all turbo 1g's. Anything larger and yes, I will for sure be using the OFH but for now I was just looking for opinions on which line I should use, of the two I already own :)

MHI turbos like the pressure found at the head. That goes for 16G series as well as the 14Bs. If there were any problems that needed to be corrected, Evos wouldn't be fed from the head either. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. If you're changing your oil religiously(as you should be), feeding from the filter housing will make little difference compared to head-fed MHIs.

You can use that line and run it from the filter housing. i used a line that looks identical to that one for my evo 3 16g and its been awesome... no leaks and it cleans up the area with a nice SS line win win :)

You need check the distance if that ss line can reach the oil filter housing, if not my friend runs a stainless steel oil feed line from his head. So ya ether way the head or the oil filter housing is just fine for the 16g or 14b turbos.

If you do run the braided line to the ofh remember to add a restrictor. The 14b ran from the head stock, the higher pressure from the ofh will probably result in mosquito fogging from the tail pipe with out some kind of restrictor. I have the line I built with a banjo fitting and .075 nitrous nipple for a restrictor that was still a little too much for my old 14b laying around somewhere. I've read a lot of guys running a russels inline filter with a .040 restriction.

Can someone explain how I should go about pluging the OFH? I've decided to feed from the head. Is it as simple as going to the hardware store and buying a plug that threads correctly and screwing it in the OFH? Will regular Teflon tape suffice?

3/8" NPT plug can be easily found and can be used to plug the hole on the oil filter housing. The actual thread is BSP I believe, but again an NPT plug will work. The stock 2G line uses a flared nut on the line that threads into a 3/8" adapter on the housing. I think it's 1/8", but it may not seal properly if you try to just plug the end of the adapter after removing the line.

NPT and BSPT are NOT interchangeable. One is a 27 thread count and the other is 28. 90% chance its going to leak and all you'll be doing is galling up the threads. Just saying.

100% truth! I recently went through this and made an oopsie. Bought a remote oil pressure kit that was 3/8 NPT. I tried to gorilla force it into the available port on my OFH and it's close, but ended up galling the threads. Now have to go back and re-tap it to NPT

Is the head plug the same as the OFH? No place local sells them :(

no one is metric and one is BSPT, since its metric you will need a crush washer

10mm x 1.25mm : Fits 1990-1994 DSM Turbo oil feed line to head

12mm x 1.25mm : Fits all 14b, 16g and 20G TDO5 Turbochargers

14mm x 1.5mm : Fits all Mitsubishi and Garrett Coolant Lines Turbochargers.

Yeah, forget what I said. :coy:

I have an adapter for a remote mounted oil pressure gauge sending unit where the feed line used to be. It's the correct thread (ie not NPT) because I had tried to use a 3/8" fitting from Home Depot Racing and it didn't fit right.
