14b Install on 2g With FMIC

Did a search but could not find the answer to my question. I know what all is needed to do the 14b on the 2g but what i could not find was if i would need a j pipe for the install if it has a FMIC? Couldn't tell if the jpipe was needed for the side mounts or not? Sorry if i missed this somewhere.

Yes. Jpipe is a generic term for the kind of pipe that connects to the 14b compressor outlet. The orientation determines what it is used for. Most jpipes that are aftermarket go straight down thus would work for a FMIC. Some aftermarket and OEM 1g jpipes are angled to the passenger side of the car thus making them more ideal for a SMIC.

if your using a side mount or even a front mount intercooler if you get the 16g install kit it will come with the lines fittings neede...it comes with the "j" pipe and an "L" pipe also

*note* not all install kits come with the "L" pipe mensioned and you may have to also buy an
o2 and header gasket.

yeah the install kit is not necessary it just makes installing the 14b or 16g itself a little easier being that it comes with the oil feed line etc. you do however need the j-pipe because it's an upward facing tubo and you need it to be facing down basically. makes life easier. i have a j-pipe on mine and will be installing a FMIC this coming weekend. keep in mind that alot of people run SMIC's with a 14b and you dont really "NEED" a FMIC for it unless you're running alot of boost with it like 20psi or something.

Yes, you will need a j-pipe that is specifically for cars with a FMIC. This pipe is made to locate the j-pipe in front of the turbo, between the rad fans. The one posted in the link above is for a SMIC and will not work properly with FMIC setups.

Thanks for the input , i got the car with a fmic on already so this is why i was wondering. we installed a sbr fmic on my girlfriends spyder and i was able to see the difference in the smic an fmic j-pipe. thanks again. Hopefully the 14b will be on this weekend.

Good luck with it, hopefully you have no problems. I have put a 14b on mine several months ago and had no problems, got it on in like 2 hours about. And i just installed my FMIC a week ago, if ya got any questions let me know.

I also run a 14b and a FMIC. I used the cheap j pipe that points straight down that came with the install kit. I had to cut the j pipe and modify it a little to work with my FMIC setup. I run a GODSPEED core, with home made piping.

I have just recently installed a 14b on mine as well. I bought the 16g install kit and it made the install go sooooo much easier. I would recommend the install kit if you have a lil extra cash to spend, i got it at Welcome To Extreme PSI just do a search it's easy to find. Make sure that you have a decent FMIC if you are going to run it tho. I tried going to the 'cost efficient' way by buying an FMIC off of eBay.. yah.. DONT do it. I will be getting a short-route very, very soon. Anyways.. good luck with the install! cheers!

see i'm running a 14b also on my 2g... problem i had was the j-pipe i have was pointing on the wrong side of the motor mount so i couldnt hook up the j-pipe to the FMIC piping. (short route SSAC) now i fabbed up a j-pipe from a u-bend and a flange... but now the problem i'm having is that on the driver side of the FMIC where the pipe connects, it wants the pipe to go too far back and hit my oil housing so now i have to cut that and shorten it to make it work... full time job and fabbing stuff at night kinda sucks right now haha. all in all it will be good when i'm done, it's just been a ***ch to make it work right and make it look good.

You should have no problems with the SSAC kit hitting the oil housing. Sounds like you need to re-position the kit. The only thing mine bumps into are the oil housing lines, which arent a big deal. My front mount took a while to install, i took 3 days/18 hours. I took my time and it was in 20 degree weather in a UNHEATED garage.
