I plan on getting a new turbo next week. Is there a large difference between the 14b and 16g? And does the 16g need the same install kit as the 14b with the j pipe and oil and coolant lines? And I an also getting larger fuel injectors. Probably 650cc. What do you recommend?
 
ok so a 16g sounds good to me LOL. but from what you guys are saying is it pretty much pointless for me to get a turbo with that much pull if i dont have awd?

No one said you shouldnt get a turbo without AWD. Im going to be running a hx40 with my fwd. Itll just be hard to get the power to the ground. Im shooting for 600hp but all I want is the dyno numbers. Dont let the awd thing hold you back.
 
I have a small 16g and I don't spin unless I launch oviously is where the awd have advatage on us fwd guys.But if your doing like 30-60mph roll you should be fine.
 
Let's talk about flow rates instead of "pulls hard". (These are just estimates)
  • T-25 - <25 lbs/min (235-250hp)
  • 14b - 30 lbs/min (275-300hp)
  • S16g - 34 lbs/min (345/365hp)
  • B16g - 36 lbs/min (365/385hp)
  • E316g - 39 lbs/min (385/400hp)
For your goal, a 14b will get you there on the high side but a small 16g will do it easier. You will need supporting mods for either choice. Another budget option is a 14b with a 7cm turbine housing (from a big 16g) which should flow about 32 lbs/min.

Correct me if im wrong but the evo 3 16g flows at 42lbs/min. Which could put you at 420 hp. I believe every lbs/min can be converted to 10hp?

The Evo 3 16g is rated at 550 CFM. 1 lb/min is equal to 14.472 CFM so... 550 CFM/14.472 = 38 lbs/min or roughly 380hp. Lets not forget that these are estimates only.

there have been times where the Evo 16g has made over 400+ AWHP.
Yes, and there have been 14b's that make over 320hp... but it's still only rated at 30 lb/min. The numbers/ratings are a guide, estimate, approximation, idea, etc (for the third time).

If you guys want the HIGH numbers (from the Dyno Challenge on here):
14b is 324
S16g is 399
B16g is 451
These numbers are not what the turbos are rated for or what the average DSMer should expect.
 
If you're going to be doing a new turbo setup you might as well go straight to the 16g! I ran a 14b on my 2g for awhile and i loved it, but then i put an Evo III Big 16g and it was amazing! If you can afford a 16g go for it, but just as a warning most 16g's are extremely hard to find, rebuilt or used might be your best and only bet if going for a 16g.
