14b question, to run at high psi what fuel mods do I need? Just a rewire? I keep reading the 450's are enough for the 14B but 15 psi is safe. next question, for a 16G are 550's as big of injectors that I would need? And what psi could I run the 16G at safely with a 190 rewired on the 450's? And I have supporting mods, all maintenance done including timing belt kit, 3 inch turbo back, MBC, gauges and such. Just trying to max out the 14B first, If I have to get a SAFC to max out the 14B Id rather just switch to the 16G at that time and be done with it. Thanks in advance.

you should be able to get 17-18 psi safely on pump gas with a tune with your afc. on stock fuel system

550's are more than enough for a 16g. with the 450s i wouldnt go any higher than 16lbs even with a fuel pump.

be safe spend 200 on injectors and run the 14b to 18lbs and not worry about running it lean:thumb:

maybe its the newbie in me, or maybe im just stupid. 550's are more than enough for the 16g, but I would need 550's to run the 14b at 18 psi? Guess Im gonna need bigger injecors to go anywhere.

on one of my old 1g's i had 550s with a 190 and dyno'd at 18lbs on the 14b, any more than that and the turbo is like hairdryer. im sure there will be someone on here that will tell you that you can run 18lbs on 450s. i wouldnt do it. its really not worth melting a piston because your trying to squeeze every drop of fuel that you can out of a tiny injector....but thats just MO.

I would say with a good tune and a fuel pump you could get away with 450's on a 14b. By get away with i mean your injector duty cycles will be near 100%. It will work but not be all that safe because the injectors could fail. I ran 450's on my 16g at 100-105% duty cycle for a few months with no problems but i guess you could say i was just lucky. It all depends on what you expect from this.

CHEAP---FAST---RELIABLE Pick 2 cause you cant have all 3

I agree with smokin80, I ran 550's, stock fuel everything else and 20psi with a big16g and had no trouble out of it for ever. That motor eventually jumped time and was finished. I was lucky on the fuel thing but not the timing belt thing. Lucky or stupid, I guess it is how you look at it. Now I would say I was stupid but then I would just say woohoo this thing is fast!!!!

I have to agree with this guys. Like many have said with a good tune yes you can get away with 450's and the 16g. But it really isn't worth the risk. Some have had success but I would have to say they are lucky, like they have said themselves.

I would def get the 550's if I were you.

Stay boostin

I agree... you can run a 16G on your stock 450's ( i did for a long time ) But if you are going to do the 16G swap i would recomend you putting injectors in ( and yes 550's are plenty! ) When i had my 16G in my car i ran it with stock injectors and i couldnt get out of the 14.00 in the 1/4mile. I think my best time was 14.08, but i put a set of 650's ( but they were too big for the 16G... ) and it lowered my time to 13.64 on the next pass, and with a light tune i went 13.07. So injectors made a world of difference to my car.

TOO BIG depends entirely on what you are using to tune with. If you have AEM EMS or DSMlink then you can run any injector you want and it will be fine. I have 880's on my 16g setup right now.(50%duty cycle) If you are going to get dsmlink or get big injectors because then you wont have to upgrade anymore in the future. 650's/550's/900's all cost roughly around the 250 to 300dollar range.

Of course an AFC will require the closest match for injector or you will be pulling to much airflow from the map and the car will end up with too much timing.

Agree. I didnt bring up DSMLink because the OP only mentioned S-AFC.

If you ever plan on getting more power and running rediculous amount of boost. Then I would get DSMLink, and get 950's or 1000's. Then you will never(for 99% of us) need to worry about upgrading your injectors again.

But if you plan on only 550's and thats it then grab a S-AFC and call it a day. It should suit you needs perferctly. But if you plan on getting 650's or anything bigger, go with DSMLink.

No they aren't if you ever plan to push the turbo.

Agreed. You'll need even more fuel if you plan on adding cams since the increase in VE will require more fuel as a result.

with his intentions 550's are enough. this guy "apparently" doesnt want to spend money to upgrade if he doesnt have to so i figured that cams weren't in the equation. but with cams 550s wouldn't be enough.:rocks:

and this is why this site has become what it has:notgood:

people that like to fight back and forth to try and prove each other wrong...like its a pissing contest....this is why i do not post more.

no where in any post does this member mention adding cams. he just talks about fuel mods and boost.

not very many people on here answer questions anymore...they all have to throw a whole new spin on things....like...well its safe until you add cams...even though the OP never mentions anything like that. he wants to know how much boost is safe on stock injectors and his 14b. IMO no more than 15-16lbs.

im not even going to address the rest of this because im not going to get into a pissing contest.

snowbird good luck.:thumb:

Thanks guys. I never thought about doing cams because I may sound stupid saying this, but I want to try to have a fast/reliable DSM without going overboard into mods that will only yield maybe a second in the quarter mile because Id rather drive it everyday. I think I will just run the 14B at 15lbs for awhile and then get fuel mods before I do anything else. I just want to run low 13's, thank god I have the awd to help me. Thanks again.

Just look at what your datalogger is telling you.85% duty cycle is about what you want to max out at.Anymore than that, things start to lean out and injectors can fry. With my tsi,is could run 16psi with a bigger pump, and my duty cycles were around 85 or so.

Does having AFPR,change things also? Like having 55psi of fuel on 450s. Or if you have a stock FPR like, 1g a/t with stock 43psi or n/t with 53psi? Or does that matter with the 190lpm fuel pump

Im curious also, I have seen many "iffy" posts about people running 450's at like 20lbs with cranked up FP. I dont believe it though, I would think once they are maxed they are maxed.

But I do know that you are going to need some type of afc to help get a good tune. I have read many post that guys are pushing the 14 to 20-24psi but they all had fmic, afc and race gas.

Goodwill,Arctic TSI,and A thread called ez 12s on next to stock set up. Or some thing like that. All have 12sec. runs on a 14 and race gas

I my self, want to run 13-12s but I have a a/t, so I have to do more than the 5 speed cars. From all my reading Andymoraitis is a good source of real info, not to say others are not.

I will definitely be tuned, good luck with the 13B.
