Hi. If I Upgrade My 13g Turbo To A Small 16g, Can I Use The Same Oil/water Lines Etc?

I'm pretty sure the 13g uses diffent coolant lines than those of the 14b, which are the same as the 16g. Thats the only reason I'm unable to swap my 14b in.

Also I have a ported 2g manifold on my 13g and it bolted right up.

A 13g isnt that smaller that a t25? Im just wondering why you have that on your car. The lines should be identical on the 16g those turbos look almost the same but the compressor housing a little different tdo4 vs tdo5.

The 13g is a huge upgrade from the t25. The 13g came stock on the auto 1g dsm's. My brother had one on his because the previous owner swapped one on, because the 14b died. All I know is it would rock stock 14b's. The turbo spooled really fast.

Im pretty sure that someone modded your lines already to fit that turbo and the 16g should work with the same ones. The 13g is almost identical as the 14b but with a tdo4 housing instead of the td05. We used all the same lines on his 16g upgrade.

That is the first time i've ever heard that. Makes sense though because a m/t has to spool it up every shift.

And i've always read that the t25 and 13g flowed similar cfm and similar spool time, so I wouldn't call it a huge upgrade.

Ok I wouldnt call it a huge upgrade, that was an over statement. I think his car was running really good and that little 13g spooled so fast. It had nothing up top though. 3rd and up was slow compared to a 14b.

NO.

They are bigger , banjo bolts and the lines. You can, Because I have actually done this, Is drill out the 13g cooling line banjo holes to fit, drill very carefully, remember the crush washers still have to seal. You still need the bigger banjo bolts tho. I would recommend getting the proper lines tho I'm sure they flow alittle better because they may have a bigger inside diameter for better flow.

By the way I hope you know that fuel upgrades are needed because you will run lean as hell if you don't.

GOOD LUCK

Joe

The 14b has bigger upper banjo bolt .The 13g needs the smaller exaust manifold also. Why would you use a small 13g when you could get the bigger 14b or even bigger 16g? the 14b's are a dime a dosen. The 13g spool time is good but it runs out fast, your power will only be good between 2k-5k.The t25 and 13g flow almost the same, thats why you see 2g 14b/16g upgrade kits not 13g.

I have a 13g because my stock engine on my 98 eclipse blew, so when I got a new engine it had a 13g in it. I'm really confused b/c half the people on here tell me I can use the same oil/water lines when I put my small16g in, and the other half says I can't. If my car already has 1g turbo setup, why would I need to get different oil/water lines? Please help. Tom

It does not need the smaller exhaust manifold. I know this because I have a ported 2g on my car. I can show you a pick if you want, but it will bolt right up. :thumb:

sorry to hijack thread but i was told from a reputable turbo shop that u don't need the coolant lines unless ## turbo is ball bearing. Is that true?

Yes this is true to a point. If you want to let your car run for 3-5 min's everytime you stop. The coolent cools the turbo even after you turn the motor off. Its a good idea for turbo life to keep the coolent lines.

I cant remember but we may had to do something to the stock coolent lines but the worked for the 13g and the 16g. Also you DO NOT need a different manifold because he used the same one for his 16g.

TDO4 and TDO5 are not the same, the 14 and the 16 are still TDO5. So yes, The manifold, lines and banjo bolts need to be changed or modded to work.
The question I would ask is, How to tell if I have a 6 bolt or 7 bolt. Good luck! :talon:

Can anyone tell me how many banjo bolts I would need? in other words if I go to the mitsu dealer what should I ask them for? Thanks for the help guys. Tom
