i was just wondering if 13 seconds is a bad 0-60 time for a fully stock 99 rs automatic. it seems like a ####in pinto could beat me.

Although i bet thats from 0-45 or so. *JUST MESSIN* ;)

Just tryin to cheer ya up:thumb:
Although i dont think it should take you that long?? But i wouldnt know.

That wasn't very nice. Just because I tried doing a 0-45 in 5th gear doesn't mean my car is slow...I'm just stupid. :p
I did think my car was slow (probably 13.6-7 in the 1/4) but damn...yeh man sorry I didn't help you.

Start by changing your fluids...change the oil, coolant, power steering, brake, and ESPECIALLY the ATF fluid and use some of that Redline or expensive ATF fluid because those actually do help you go faster. Also change your spark plugs and wires, just use stock plugs and maybe Magnacore or Accel wires. Then run some MCCC (mopar combustion chamber cleaner) it will clean out the injectors valves and cylinders pretty good. After you do all that or if you have somebody else do it for you and you buy the stuff (guessing high) it shouldn't cost more than 350-400, It sounds like your car may not have been taken care of so it would be a good idea to get that stuff straightened away. Then you can have a car that runs the way it is supposed to.

Also your timing could be horribly out of wack like the other guy said...when was the last time the timing belt was done? Get that checked when you change all the fluids. Also do a compression check on the engine because you may have a messed up engine that isn't getting compression and maybe one(or two) of the cylinders isn't firing. Lots of stuff can be wrong...and you are just way too slow. Don't go to the dealer to get that stuff done...go to either a DSM guy in your area or a reputable local mechanic. That way it wont cost you an arm and leg.

YOU HAVE TO GET YOUR CAR RUNNING RIGHT BEFORE ADDING PERFORMANCE PARTS OTHERWISE YOU WILL RUN INTO MORE PROBLEMS!

Good luck man...cause you need it:thumb:

... i cant tell if half of you even read his first post... he said 13seconds 0-60, not 13sec 1/4 mile. you should actually read his posts instead of flame him for 2F2F and ricer bull$#!7. thats lame.

Foreign, I wouldn't sell the DSM yet. A CRX would et eaten by one stock for stock. You should be sitting right around 8-9 sec 0-60. Here are some things to check for:

1) Trans, does it feel like it slips at all?
2) Does the car smoke, stutter, or bog at all?
3) Does the car seem to use a lot of fuel? You should be getting close to 24 city 31 highway on a lowball figure.
4) Does anything besides the slow 0-60 feel just not right?
5) Does it start hard?

I know When we had the timing belt done on our old 95 GS done at a local Mitsu Dealer, they had it just lsightly out of time and the car was a complete POOCH. It wasnt far enough off to do any damage, but far enough off to make it horribly slow. If the t-belt has been done, and no other symptoms are showing, I would start there.

ok i really am i newbie..I dont know what it means for it to "slip". the car starts perfect, doesnt smoke, doesnt feel rough when it shifts and it seems to be normal.

one thing ive noticed is that sometimes my car can feel very slow even just driving on the freeway and then i can get in it a day later and it feels completly different and much faster. if you are saying that I should be getting to 60 in about 9 seconds then that must feel weird me being used to it going so slow. Im about to go for a drive and im gunna test it some more....oh yeah, thank you to those people who actually try to help and not show off how fast there car is...this is a help forum not a race track

I TRIED TO HELP.......READ MY POST ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

YOU NEWBIE

NOBODY HERE IS TRYING TO SHOW OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

to slip means...do your revs do up fairly quick but the car still doesn't go anywhere. (well it goes somewhat but very slowly)

Get it? So How old are you 17...you said you've had youv'e been driving for a year and 3 days? Guess how old I am.................17. Wow...I'm trying to help you and so is everybody else.

What part of Cali are you in? I'm in San Luis Obispo if your within a hour than I can come to you or you can come to me and we can do some tests and stuff...I won't change all the fluids cause I don't have all the equipment to do that but I'm sure we could diagnos the car and figure out what is wrong.

i live in the san fernando valley so thats like what 2 hours away from you? as for your description of slip...it doesnt do that. It shifts perfect. but as a testament to how bad honda is I still beat my friends 99 stick EX...and doesnt that have the same hp as my car AND it was stick. no one answered me about testing my 0-60...am i just to slam on the gas from a stop?

ok i turned overdrive off and tried it on a very gentle uphill slope (i doubt it would effect the time) and it took 11 seconds now. 2 seconds is good but its still slooowwww

well if you beat a honduh than thats all that matters right?:D
What did you say you used to check your time? Just a watch or did you use a Gtech? If you used a watch than it is probably inaccurate and you could be getting good times...inaccurate meaning you start somewhere between 0-1 seconds then you reach 60 look down at your watch and that takes time you could actually be 2 seconds faster which would be around 9...I thought you were supposed to be around 7 but 9 is nowhere near as bad as 13.

To answer your question about how to 0-60...no your not doing it the fastest way possible...since you have an auto what you want to do is slam the brake with your left foot and rev the engine up with your right foot while in drive. Don't rev too high...only to like 2.5K-3K no more. Your car shouldn't move when you do this...then to start you slam the gas and let off the brake simultaneously (its like launching in an auto...I think its called "brake torqueing" or something like that). Do that and you should be getting the 7-8second 0-60's that you should be getting.

Also you didn't answer our question about the timing belt and maintance history of the vehicle. You may not need to replace ALL your fluids but it would still be a good idea to do what you can do yourself...like the oil, coolant, auto tranny fluid, spark plugs, wires and if you follow the directions right...the Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner.

my moms auto accord seems to have that same problem - 0-60 over 10 sec.. and its a 180 hp v6. Thats with my friend using a stopwatch riding shotty.. wierd thing is that his altima has the same problem - quick to 45 then 5 more seconds to get to 60

It kinda sounds like a restriction of some sort. I would start with changing the fuel and air filters. Believe it or not, it makes a huge diff if they are dirty. Also, do like someone else said and have the Mopar cleaner run through it. You may have clogged injectors or carboned up cylinders.

Or you can try my approach with the GS I had. The car was ooched it's whole life, and carboned tobe all hell. I ran the cleaner through it, and then proceeded to beat the snot out of it. A couple full throttle runs to 125 and she was all cleaned out and running like a top. Beware, local PD tends not to like this to much, so find a low patroled road in the country somewhere if you can. :D

Try the easiest stuff first, and if that fails, run it to the ...acck... dealer for a proper diagnosis. They will probably feed you a line, but the data from the tests can be helpful in detirmining the prob.

hahaha could you acctually imagine someone taking 13 seconds to reach the 60 foot mark. I could lay on my stomach and do the worm walk faster than that. Hes talking about 0-60mph

Just for grin's I took my fiance's 02 Beetle out and tried that(only car slow enough to pooch that bad). It's really hard to take 13 seconds to go 60 ft! Even in the Bug!

ok i will try launching it how you said and i was timing useing a watch. My stepdad manages a mitsu dealer so i will have him take in and they will look at it

sounds good...and realize that by using a watch you may be up to 2 seconds off in the positive side so you could figure that you may actually be 1 - 2 seconds faster.

I would still suggest to replace the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) with Redline ATF...its like a performance brand of ATF that supposedly makes the car a little quicker because of the viscosity and stuff in the fluid...I know Redline makes good motor oil and the water wetter is good stuff too...so I'm sure this stuff is good. Redline is a company

your car is thee worst of all dsm's. rs autos are for girls and ####ies. get a real car. until then dont post here again asking about your shitbox.

Lof, I think that was exteremely uncalled for. He may not have had the choice in the car, as I believe he said it was his first car. Oh, and for the record, if you wanna talk crap, I would rape you silly in my Supra, so take your slow azz pos somewhere else and dont post untill you get a clue. Doesnt feel so good, does it? Bet your feeling all defensive, and bet you start talking crap.

BTW, no offense to all the dsm owners with brains. I just had to make this little peon feel important. Carry on with the ACTUAL conversation

That sounds about right for an automatic eclipse GS actually. Remember, you only got like 120hp or something to the sound of that. Next time on your launch, try mashing the brakes, then mashing the gas, THEN launch. That might help you out a bit.

Sorry to tell ya this man, but automatic eclipses that are n/a are just slow. I think my old '86 mr2 auto could beat you. That does 0-60 in < 10secs.
