Locke, please do not try and turn my post around. What I meant about the white light post is quite simply that most factory cars are equipped with white lights. It does not really compromise saftey, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc mostly run purple HID headlights. If it can pass DOT standards, it must not be too awful bad.

I can't say I've EVER seen one of those cars (or any car) with purple HID's. They usually run 4100k or 4300k bulbs because it has the most pure light and provide the most light output.

I personally just think the 12000k would really decrease your range of vision (which is why I would upgrade to an HID setup). Plus, purple headlights are just not my thing. They may work for kittay though.

For true. They also have the rainbow color to it as well. Different angles come different colors. :thumb:

Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Acura all tint their lenses and run 4000-4500k bulbs.

Mavisky,
here is an E46 3 series, factory Bi-xenon headlamps, blue lighting.

Many BMWs run Bi-xenon, and the 5 series do infact have a purple lamp option. My buddies B6 A4 has OEM purple HID setup, with DOT numbers right on them.

To be honest, I am not sure of the K rating. It is factory Audi.
The more K the higher the light output, correct?
If so, the higher K would be safer for the driver, just not others on the road?

That is incorrect, K is the colour rating. The higher the K, the more colour, but the less light output. Around 3K the light is yellow 4300 is like daylight & the brightest, 6K has a hint of blue, 8K is blue w/ a hin't of purple, 10K more purple, etc. If you search some "aftermarket" HID sites, they will usually give you a nice little chart that shows you the colour output vs K rating. They may also have a chart showing light output vs the K rating.

As for the BMW's, Audi's etc having having blue or purple output this isn't normally true. As mentioned they usually use a 4300 bulb but because of projector design the light colour output changes when the light is refracted through the lense, which is why you see stronger colours at certain times. Though once you get closer & in direct sight, you will see the light is basically bright white & the driver see's bright white/daylight as well.

Maybe its just me but the 8K+ HID kits bother me & tend to make me flash or keep my high beams on. The laws here in Canada are the same, HID kits aren't legal. I went with a 5K kit just because so many other around here run them (lots in very poor/tonns of glare housings) & am tired of being blinded & not being able to see where Im going as our factory headlights aren't the best. All in all, from what I've seen our headlights (well atleast the 2gb Eclipse) have pretty damn good cutoff for a halogen housing, especially compared to others I've seen (though obviously not as good as a proper retrofit).

The color in hid projectors is created by light refracting off the cutoff not the color of the bulb. The color band gets wider as you get farther from the car. Depending on the projectors bowl and cutoff design it can refract anywhere in the rainbow of colors. Colored lenses diffuse the color at the cutoff and reduce the color. Crystal clear lenses increase the sharpness and overall output of the refracted light increasing the color.

I was wondering if this was a drop in kit with the stock housing? Buy the 9006 HID bulb then proceed with installing the ballasts etc?

Yes it most likely is.. I sell plug and play hid kits and have had great results with them.. Over 50sold with zero failure.. I love them in my eclipse.

I've never been a fan of those HID kits. For better visibility, I just got better fog/driving lights. Instead of a yellow lens, they are clear and have H3 bulbs in them. They are brighter than the stock headlights and pretty white. I shoot them parallel since they're lower to the ground. I see just as far with them as I can with the high beams on, but I don't ever get flashed, not once in over a year.

I have enough trouble dealing with lifted trucks in my area. I don't need them high-beaming me on top of that.

Holy cow!!!! $500!!!! I need to start charging more. And my kits have a 3 year warranty on all parts. Thats just insane what people charge now.

What do you mean now? When I bought my first kit was back in 2000 for $600. It included true phillips made hella gen 3's and h4 rebased phillips d2r's. There was not a single oem bulb available on ebay let alone a kit. Now there are more kit's on ebay than any other item and they are well below $100. Of course there all cheap China made crap. I have less than 500 in my oem manufactured Hid projectors, oem ballasts, and new phillips bulbs.

Realized I never posted pics of my setup.

The kits I sell here locally are a high quality plug and play system that have a 3 year warranty and I only charge $140 or $125 to my club members. These are the highest quality kits I could find. I've found more expensive kits, just not high quality kits. I was stating that I should start selling them for more if he bought that kit for $500.

My GS 300 has an aftermarket kit, but installed by the previous owner. Is the rating (4300, 6000, etc) written on the ballasts? I'd like to know which one i have. It's a nice blue color, kinda like what Kyle posted. LOOKS PIMP, now i just need to source some yellow fog housings, i got the clear ones.
