Here is my problem. I bought aftermarket projector lights from eBay. Keeping in mind that I will be taking out the Halogen ones and replacing them with amazing Hella. My problem is that those damn lights are 2.5” Diameter lens and not 3” like Hellas are. So I am stuck with these:

Halogen projector headlights

I don’t want to convert my stock 97-99 Lights because, I might sell them or put them back when I sell the car or something… and its too much work to do it and doesn’t look good ether.

So I am wondering where can I find aftermarket 97-99 Eclipse projector lights with 3” halogen projectors? I looked on eBay and none of them are so I am stuck with this amazing kit and no where to shine that bright blue HID lights

To my knowledge, 3" dia projector headlights like you are looking for, don't exist. You have to do some creative cutting/fabrication to get them in and look nice.

There is a tech article here to give you some ideas.

Wow that sux:( I read the FAQ HID one and its for converting stock ones with 90mm hella projectors... first thing mine are bigger and i am trying to get em on aftermarket ones. Maybe i should just ask the seller to swap for those... 90mm 3" diameter Hellas

There is another thread on here where they put HID's into aftermarket projector headlights. Search and you shall find.

It's a lot of work but if you are adventurous it can be done.

These are Hella E55 Bi-Xenons in the same ebay light you have pictured. I had to Dremel out the opening and throw away the halos (good idea anyway). You also have to make adjusters in the back and provide a custom dust cover for the rear. I did not do a tech topic on the mod. since it's not a weekend type project.

WOW that looks amazing! :thumb: Dude you gave me hope! I got a dermal too, and was thinking of doing what you did. Could you please send me some pics of inside and engine bay pics of the headlights to see how you fitted them? Also where did you place the ballasts?

PS: Do you use 4300K Philips with those? I still want to go for that blue look too and still have it very bright, because just LOVE it so i got 6000K Philips Unilton Bulbs :D

Here are the pics I have of the install. These are E55 Bi-Xenon Hellas from an Audi A4 or a Mercedes installed into aftermarket ebay projector housings.

Note: I made several attempts to install these projectors into factory Eclipse housings but you would have to make your own bezels to hide the mechanicals behind and I couldn't see an easy way to do that without it looking like a hack job.

Some of the pics are for figuring out how to re-use the factory harness so you may not need those. Good luck.

E55 Install

Here's one of the challenges. In order to provide adjustment later, including rotation, I cast a high temp RTV ring to surround the front of the projector. This allowed me slight adjustment up-down, side-to-side and enough projector rotation to be sure the beam pattern is perfect after install. The projector front was covered with protective film, coated in a PVA release coat, hot glued into place temporarily and then I stood it on end and poured RTV around the groove. Maybe you'll find an easier solution? If so, be sure to share.

I saw those pics and very nice job. Question though… how exactly did you CUT the plastic part where halo light was to be 3" diamiter? Also how did you make that ring and I am not sure what does it consist of? As I Understand you aligned the lights and glued them with RTV? Or is there anything else holing the projector? Also I saw inside engine bay pic and the projector is not sealed from the back and sticking out?? Don’t you get moisture when it a rainy day or I am missing something?

Thank you

I roughed in the new hole, behind where the halos were, by freehand using a Dremel and a carbide bit. It wasn't easy. I then filed the remaining hole to the final shape with a file and sandpaper.

The RTV used was a two-part self-curing compound I purchased a local mold making shop. The front of the projector only sits in the ring and is free to rotate or move slightly up and down. It also allows me to take the light back apart while the bezel stays in the clear front lens portion and the projector stays in the housing. Yes, the projector has additional adjustable brackets holding it up behind the lens. All custom made from sheet metal scraps I had around the garage. Also, some of the black plastic around the projector reflector bowl area had to be removed in order to let the projector sit deep enough in the housing. I also had to remove some extra plastic to give the projector room to swing around providing final adjustment once it was in the car.

The photo caption for the rear view of the housing indicates that the dust cover is not in place in that picture. I am making new, extended covers that will seal up the back. I will cast them in urethane resin from molds made from either Tupperware bowls or from disposable containers. Yes, rain and dirt would eventually enter holes that large that large if left exposed.
