Long story short, I swapped in a 4g63T in my 1988 mighty max truck( 1991 laser donor car) everything was fine drove about 2k miles then the motor jumped timing bent every vavle...I have a 1.6Lt g4cr engine thats laying around, could i use that head on my 4g63T? i checked the head surface with my new head gasket and everything lines up good..so I'm thinking that it should work...the head kinda resembles the 1g head cause it has big intake ports, but it has 1.6 stamped on the back..The 4g63T intake and exhaust manifold bolts on to the 1.6 head also!! I know that if i did use this head, I would have to put my turbo cams in there so i don't loose in power, or have running issues....thanks for the help...

I don't know much about that particular head, but just because the engine displaced less volume doesn't necessarily mean the head won't work well on a bigger engine. If everything lines up correctly, it doesn't necessarily mean you can or can't use it effectively. One thing you may want to consider though is the change in compression ratio. To figure out what your CR is, you'll have to find the combustion chamber volume of that head. Get a buret and a piece of plexiglass, drill a hole in the plexi and with all the valves closed, place the plexi over one of the chambers and with the buret, fill it up until the water contacts the plexi. Then measure the volume between the piston and deck surface at TDC and add the two, taking into account the extra volume that is added by whatever headgasket you use. This is your combustion chamber volume. Once you know that volume, divide the total cylinder volume plus combustion chamber volume by the combustion chamber volume is your new CR.

(cyl vol + comb chbr vol) / comb chbr vol = CR:1

Weird, I snagged a 4G61 head and it's ports are much smaller, like the 2G head. If the manifold bolts up, and the CR works out ok, lay the head gasket over the bottom of the head and see if all the drains and feeds mate up, then finally check the valve clearence with the head on the engine before running it. If it all matches up, I say go for it!

Guys i have to X that idea, i took the cams out of the 1.6 head, and i found that the cam bearing surface is in really bad shape, and can not be used...I thought about swtiching over all of the exhaust vaules to my stock head(vaules are the same size as the 4g63) and using that...Do you guys know any where i can find a good priced stage1 head?
