05/06 Outlander brake questions

So I have been thinking about pulling the brakes off of a 2005 Outlander at a local yard. I have been reading up on the "bigger" brake upgrade. I know I will need an adapter for these brakes, but who makes them? Also, the tech article says that "most 16 inch" rims will fit, will the stock, chrome GST rims fit over them? Since I have a 2G would I need new brake lines? Finally, I know with Brembos you need a bigger brake master cylinder and booster, would I need that for the outlander brakes?

By adapter I'm assuming you're talking about the caliper bracket? If so, you can just get the bracket, calipers, rotors and lines off the outlander at the yard. That should give you enough parts to put together the front brakes. The lines will be the only questionable part (I got RRE lines when I did mine), but I believe 2gs will have the same style of lines.

You could always get new rotors and use your current calipers (if they're 2 piston, they're the same).

As far as rims, I've seen very few 16 inch rims that fit the outlanders, but it will depend on the wheel and manufacturer.

A larger master (3g, for instance) will offer more balance in the brakes, but isn't needed really.

You don't need an adapter. You need the caliper bracket, rotors, and if you have a gst, then the calipers itself. Fro what I've seen, the stock wheels don't fit

I tried making that article as clear as possible. Yet, I am often surprised at what people misunderstand about it.

But yes, just get 05/06 calipers with brackets and rotors. I just ordered another set of calipers for $80/shipped!

Stock wheels WILL fit IF you grind a little off the outside upper edges. That's how I got mine to fit with the gst 5 spokes.

Yea that price is good but $21 a piece plus $8 each for rotors can't be beat

You get what you pay for. While it is considered an economical brake upgrade, you should spend a little more on the pads/rotors. I have been extremely pleased with Centric blanks. Auto anything usually has decent sales and has free shipping, which is great for heavy components such as brake rotors.

I have been quite pleased with the Outlander brackets as I currently use them for track days. I need the stock brakes to use 15 in. rims for Rallycross events, and can swap for the Outlander brackets/rotors and more aggressive pads for track days. On the slide bolts, I have found Sil Glyde is an excellent lubricant instead of whatever the rebuilt calipers come with.

As others have said, it is not imperative to swap out the master cylinder for this upgrade.

I plan on getting good pads. As far as rotors I haven't seen the car so I don't know what shape they're in. If they're in good shape, I'll get them, if not I will invest in better ones.

Just remember, the most important piece you need are the BRACKETS.

And I agree with GRNDSM and 2gmitsueclipse, that the pads and rotors are the crucial pieces of the upgrade.
Personally, I got EBC slotted/drilled rotors, and yellowstuff pads, and I love them. When it comes time to replace I'll prolly try some blanks if I can't find EBC's for the same price as I originally did.

Correct. The brackets are the most important piece. I believe you can just keep your stock calipers. I used calipers off an n/a 3000gt since they were the same style as the 1G, and I didn't have to do banjo bolt line conversions.

If you search ebay enough you can come across close out specials on the centric e-coated rotors. I got them for $15 a piece shipped.

I'm still only on a part time job so if the rotors are in good shape, I'll get them and use them for now until I can afford better ones. But I am definitely not taking the pads, those I am certainly getting new.

I'd like to add that I installed my Outlander brackets today to check for fitment. They will fit under the 2g 16" swirlys but will NOT fit a 2g gsx spare.

So after looking around craigslist, does anyone know if the outlander brakes will fit under the 1999 OZ rims that came on the 10th anniversary edition? Only reason I ask here is because I didn't want to start a new thread.
