02 Sensor Question

Ok guys my car is gonig to be tuned relatively soon and I just wanted to ask a few questions. When i bought the car the exhaust was fabbed by itself and it looks like the O2 sensor that goes on one of the cats is just hanging there. Also, an O2 dump was on the car when i bought it but it dumps right near another one of the O2 sensors. One of the local shops around here told me the car is going to run like hell unless i spend $3000 and fix the sensor problem. Can it still be tuned with an SAFC-II?

The second o2 sensor that goes to one of your cat is probably hanging because a) You don't have a cat you have a test pipe or b) your cat is gutted (outside looks like a cat, inside is like a test pipe). Leaving the o2 sensor in the bung (hole) will trigger the check engine light. You can get an o2 sensor simulator or leave it out hanging and it won't trigger the check engine light.

Yes you can still tune with the SAFC-II. The other o2 is on the o2 housing itself. If the dump you have dumps on the o2 housing, you'll have to replace a lot of other engine bay things like fans etc. Get another o2 dump that dumps it towards the bottom of the car. If you have emissions testing in your area and have a downpipe, take it to an exhaust shop and weld the o2 dump in the downpipe at a 45 degree angle (to prevent turbulence). If you don't have the SAFC-II yet, look at the MAFT Gen II. It has more settings than the SAFC II and allows you to use the GM MAF instead of the stock 2G MAS.

About the local telling you to spend $3000, don't go there again and find another shop.
