2G 96 EU Oil pan temperature sensor

Hi all, my 96 Eclipse (EU) came with an oil pan that has sensor, but these oil pans with the slot for the sensor are absolutely impossible to find anymore.

I see I can get a new oil pan from Rockauto for 50 bucks, but of course it doesn't have the space for the sensor. Could I just drill a hole in it and put the sensor in? Or is this a really stupid idea?

Obviously would prefer to just buy the OEM part but it's unavailable everywhere in the whole EU.

That's engine oil level sensor. The part number is MD302295. Could be discontinued but may be able to find from other cars or old stock.

Thanks for the response, that's good info!
My bad, I didn't clarify enough, the sensor works fine but I need a new oil pan - I can't find an oil pan that has the spot for the sensor! I clarified my post now 😅

Oh I see. That sensor is for EDM cars, US/Japan don't have that sensor. So I guess you won't find one in the States or Japan that comes with sensor provision. So you would probably have to fabricate it unless you can find one in europe.

Fair enough, I was kind of hoping that there would be another 4g63 car that has the same oil pan (with sensor), but I'm already having difficulty finding the part number for my oil pan, never mind others which are the same with just a different part number...

It seems like the only way is get a early 4g63 7 bolt non turbo oil pan and do like @Drewpy Dawg said above.

Does that look correct? I'm not sure if there's a difference between the Lancer and Eclipse oil pan over in the EU but I found that from a quick search. If that doesn't work then I'd definitely do what Drewpy Dawg said.

That oil pan is for the late 4g63 in countries where come with the oil level sensor. The engine orientation is opposite, that's why you see the oil drain plug etc in opposite side from our early 4g63.

That hole is turbo oil return.

Could always get a new oil pan and a sandwich plate for the oil filter and have multiple spots for sensors. That's what I did anyway.

To be honest I just realized that I probably don't 😅 . The previous owner sold this car to me as a project and gave me a list of things that needed to be replaced, and last time it checked I thought I read that I have to replace the whole oil pan, but all he listed was the oil pan gasket, which is obviously a lot easier. It still doesn't look great to me with the rust and all, but I trust y'alls word on it!

I would not bother to replace the pan unless there is physical damage. It is better to save the old one, check for uneven surface when you have it removed and use a hammer to flatten the areas where there may have been dimples from over tightening the bolts
