Is there a difference between the two? One is sold at Autozone (Spectre) for around $62 and the one from STM can be had for around $90. Is there a difference or what?

Let me know guys,

Danny

I am not sure on the SKU for the Spectre but was told that when you get it from Autozone it's Spectre cause my friend just got one.

I don't know that's just what he told me. How would he know it was Spectre unless it was labeled that is what I want to know? I'll ask him and let you know.

I've seen quite a few products from Spectre (ricey crap, intake pipes, hose kits etc). I really am curious what their idea of an oil pan would be.
Paul, assuming your shop deals in Spectre, what are your thoughts on that particular brand? A good place to go for an oil pan if they had one listed somewhere?

The part and/or invoice should have the part number on it. IIRC, all Spectre stuff is labeled. Or he could simply ask his salesman which brand it is.

Yeah, I sell Spectre. 90% of the Spectre product line is targeted toward the V8 muscle car guys. They offer inexpensive chrome parts - or China Chrome as some of us call it. If you're looking for a cheap chrome oil pan, water pump pulley, water neck, etc..., then Spectre is a solid option. They aren't known for offering anything kick-ass, but they are known for being inexpensive, and many people shop by price these days.

I honestly don't see them offering any parts for a DSM anytime soon, though.

Seems like STM is trying to make a quick dollar. Unless there is something different about their Spectre pan vs Autozones.

I was going to purchase the Autozone one too untill I found out I had to dent my pan to fit over the main studs. So I just reused my old one, fixed the huge dent in it and dented where I needed for clearance.

Yes it is the same oil pan. They even specified it is "STM/Spectra" oil pan.

Spectra premuim 6 BOLT oil pan part # CRP14B
Well, there's a big difference between "Spectre" and "Spectra". That part number definitely isn't a Spectre part number. So, I guess that answers that. I'm not familiar with the company Spectra...

I've been using these instead of oem ones for years. Spectras oil pan is thicker gauge steel than oems you can even Jack up your car from the bottom of one of these without them crushing in like the OEM ones do. ALthough I highly recommend that you do not try it unless you know how to properly do it. Plus they have stronger/longer threaded holes for the oil return vs the oem ones that strip out causing you to cuss like a sailor.

This is seriously one of the cheaper/better than oem parts for our cars...

I got mine at Advance Auto parts for 65$ with tax included for ref.

Hm. $65 vs. $500. Hm. Oh, the Moroso "keeps the crankshaft free of excess oil". Really. So does the stock sump on every car built since big-end dipper lubrication was replace by oil pumps.

Marketing. :toobad:

I'd not be surprised if you'd find all the Mitsubishi-compatible oil pans are coming from the same Chinese stamp mill these days.

Can somebody say if 7 bolt oil pans can be found at local parts stores as well?

Cool. Well I hope we've all helped the DSM community whenever people decide to get a new oil pan.

Thanks,

Danny
