Recently was googling around about the 41TE 4-speed auto that came in the Non-Turbo 2Gs and came upon a website that offers a Limited Slip Conversion kit for the 41TE specifically for the Chrysler PT Cruiser.

From what I’ve read here on DSMTuners the PT Cruiser 41TE is considered a favorable replacement for the Eclipse 41TE, I don’t specifically remember the reasons behind it without cheating and just reading the thread behind it, but I'm wondering if anyone who owns a 2GNT with the auto has had this LSD kit installed on their car, assuming they swapped over to the PT Cruiser 41TE, or if they managed to install it on the 41TE that came in the Non-Turbo 2G.

I think it would be an interesting alternative to have an automatic with a LSD to compare/contrast with the manual NVT-350, of which I think I recall Modern Performance (or MPX asIi think some people refer to it) offers a LSD for.

Update: There’s also a page on the same website with a Limited Slip Conversion kit offered specifically for the Non-Turbo Eclipse. The year range of 1995-2006 is questionable but they specify A604 which if i understand correctly should be the same as the 41TE, the product code between the PT Cruiser 41TE kit and the NT Eclipse A604 kit is different, so i wonder if there is a real difference between the two, they are also priced differently. Maybe contacting Traction Concepts and asking them may help clarify any differences.

Upon further research from other vehicle forums it seems that although the products offered by Traction Concepts basically work, they don’t hold up to longevity, so in the longterm its not worth the money, aside from there not being many reporte of other vehicles using their LSD conversion kits. Skepticism seems high. I should have looked into it more beforehand.

These have been around for a really long time. I think the predominant brand, back in the day, was "Phantom Grip". As you discovered, they put a lot of the stress on the spider gears, causing the diff to fail prematurely. A real limited slip differential has always been the best option, albeit expensive. Quaife was the original, then OBX made a much cheaper copy, and I believe Modern Performance made better quality copy as well. I don't believe any of them are in production anymore.
