Hey guys! On my 1996 Eclipse GS I have axle seal, main seal, and differential leaks. I am in the process of removing the transmission in order to fix all of these leaks.

Before I severely screw something up I wanted to ask for your advice. Is there tips you have for removing the transmission? Anything I should be worried about? As well, when I get the transmission off and take the flywheel off of the engine, are there any special instructions or precautions I need to take when changing the main seal?

Also what should I keep an eye out for while I have the engine this exposed? All advice is needed. This is the first time I’ve done any job this big.

Here’s a picture of my prized possession as well

I'll give some advice for replacing the rear main seal. Usually when you order the main seal it will include 2 other gaskets which are not used on the 420a. So don't worry about those, I usually trash them. Also usually included will be a plastic installation sleeve which I highly recommend you use. Installing the seal without the sleeve leaves you more likely to rip/kink the rubber flap onto the crankshaft.

Everything black DSM said above is great advise.

I am assuming you have a manual car since you talked about unbolting the flywheel from the engine and just wanted to add that if you are not familiar with these cars they have a modular clutch. (unless someone changed it) So you have to unbolt the flywheel from the flexplate like you would unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate on an automatic car. I believe the bolts are offset too so you'll want to mark one of the flex plate holes and flywheel holes so you can line them up the same when you put it back together

Okay so, I have the automatic Chrysler A604 41te. So when removing the transmission, is the torque converter connected to the engine or transmission or both?

If you remove the metal inspection cover you will see them. You'll have to rotate the crankshaft to access all of them. I do this from the pulley bolt on opposite side.

Hey man so I’ve got the kit but I’m having trouble getting the seal to slide on with the install tool. I don’t want to force it but what do you recommend?
