yes i completely understand this, i just want a general how to so i know what im getting myself into. Sorry i searched vfaq drivetrain and couldnt find it

Split the case using the guides on 2gnt. The differential lifts straight out, and a Quaife drops directly in place.

It is pretty straightforward.

When you say pretty straightforward, are you saying its a pretty easy install? Ive done quite a few differentials, but they have all been ford 9's or 12 bolts, nothing at all like a fwd differential. I just want to know what im in for

If you have done some tranny work/diffs its relatively straight forward. Here's a link (but it refers to pic that aren't there any more, so its slightly more difficult to follow. But again, easy enough).

As Locke said, you basically split the case and swap out the diffs for the Quaife. The one thing that's not mentioned is, by rule, you should do the preload lash on the new diff. BUT I have done many diff swaps and have yet to do a preload lash (and have yet to have problems). The problems you would run into would be too much or too little play in the cone bearings (where they sit in the races when you bolt the case halves back together). The result would be earlier failure or noisy bearings.

But as I said , I have never done preload (and most don't).
