I’m currently restoring a 1G barn find, keeping it completely stock. In the process of a first start, I’ve found that the fuel pump doesn’t work. My question is, I don’t see any direct placement OEM pumps on the market. If I go with the Walbro 190 will I run into any issues running rich, etc? I don’t want to have to go down the fuel system upgrade rabbit hole since it will remain stock.

I have a Build Thread if anyone wants to check it out on my profile.

If that's how the OEM one looks, then RockAuto absolutely sells them new still. Just looked.

There is also this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/192790794195?chn=ps&google_free_listing_action=view_item

A higher flowing fuel pump does not automatically mean more fuel is injected.

The ECU doesn’t know what fuel pump is installed and it doesn’t care.

If the injectors stay the same, there’s no increase in air intake, the fuel pressure remains the same (fuel pressure regulator in good operating condition), and the pump does not overrun the fuel pressure regulator, it should not run any differently with a higher flowing fuel pump.

So we don’t need an afpr for any aftermarket pump? 255 or hellcat pump is fine?

I’ll say again. If:
- the injectors stay the same
- there’s no increase in air intake,
- the fuel pressure remains the same (fuel pressure regulator in good operating condition)
and
- the pump does not overrun the fuel pressure regulator

Then it should not run any differently with a higher flowing fuel pump.

If there is a change in any one of those, then an AFPR should likely come into play.

Do 255s and Hellcat pumps overrun the stock fuel pressure regulator? If so, then get an AFPR.

I know this is a 1g post but I'm using the Denso 950-0178 pump for 2g turbo on my Talon right now and its great. Using a 20g at stock boost 12-14 psi and wideband is reading 10 AFR at WOT so its keeping up fine. Wanted to call Denso and see if they had an actual flow rate for this pump but never got to it.

Since your 1g the install kit is going to be different so you may need to work that a bit.

I tried to get a 190 from STM about 3 years ago and they were on backorder everywhere , are they available again? Maybe they have revised the 190 and 255 since I last ran one about 10 years ago but are they still loud? I know the 255 is on its 3rd or 4th revision now. The Denso is completely silent.

You have to be careful buying Walbro pumps as eBay is littered with fakes as is Amazon. You pretty much have to buy one from a reputable vendor. I bought a 190 last year from ExtremePSI.

As stated, the 190 pump will work with the factory FPR. This community has been using 190 pumps for ~30 years.

Yes, bought from ExtremePSI, I never buy new parts from Ebay for that exact reason. Thanks for looking out!

Good, you probably ordered a GSS278 then. That's the version you'd normally use on AWD 1g.
Wanted to note it because STM for some reason only sells the GSS250 which you'd normally use on FWD 1g and on 2g.

Also want to note that current production has different plastic molding on top (is a gray top now, not a black top) that is completely incompatible with the stock orange plastic spacer that you probably found on top of your original pump. So you have to seal up the outlet pipe some other way. There are several different ways that people have used and written up in here. The o-ring that comes in the Walbro kit is too skinny for the Walbro, although it is fine for the original stock pumps. Pretty funny. It is a 3.5 x 8 x 15 mm o-ring. You'd be better with a 4.0 x 7 x 15 mm o-ring with something stiff underneath it to act as a spacer (short piece of stiff hose maybe). O-ring dimensions are thickness x ID x OD.

Or like some people do, use a submersible hose there instead. I mean, you would cut the metal bellmouth off to do that.

Or if it was still possible to buy Viton or nitrile soft rubber (60 A durometer) tubing in size 1/4" ID x 9/16" OD, you could use a single piece of that 15/16" long to replace the spacer, o-ring, and cap all in one clean shot. That is how I do mine.

Or you can see what happens with an Evo fuel pump grommet, which is how some people are doing it, maybe with an o-ring on top of the grommet since the grommet pushes down, which was not the original design intent.

I see an Outlander fuel tank grommet MR514677 that looks interesting because it looks like it has a spacer section made integral with it. The Evo grommets (MR431121) don't have that. It's only about $5. I'd buy one just to take a look. I probably will when I have a few dull moments LOL. Searching DSMtuners for MR514677 I get nothing.

Aww it looks like nobody in the US has these Outlander grommets, and the non-US places that have them want $22 or more for shipping to the USA.
