I'm looking for a set of budget coilovers to get my car on the road. I talked to the guys at MAPerfomance and they said that the yonaka coilovers in their eyes are a step above the megan easy streets. I'd like info from anyone who is actually running the coilovers or had any experience with them. They will never see any tracks just some sprinted driving.

If your doing "spirited driving" why not decide on your ride height and get corresponding springs with some nice KYB or Koni struts? Much cheaper and still have adjustable stiffness. :thumb:

I have talked with a few 2g owners using the yonkas. One person was going to buy another set. Both loved them. I almost got them too but got a good deal on some teins.

Rim width and tire size is the reason for not looking into springs, and a good set of struts and springs is gonna run more than the yonakas anyway

Dang, you must be running some wide wheels! OMG

How much did you get quoted for the Yonakas? You can get the spring/shock setup stated above for under $500.(just saying, not pushing opinion)

My buddy runs this on his S13 and swears by them, but not sure if quality is the same for the DSM ones. Suspension - Nissan 240SX 1989-94 S13

I have them and love them and I'm about to put them to the test auto-crossing! I've had mine since 2010 and have made 100's of passes at the drag strip with these handling amazingly, I can cut low 1.7 60' and havnt had any issue with wheel hop. They are a well matched spring and dampner/shock, mine still look brand new and arnt blown at all. The ride on normal road conditions at least with my alignment and setup rides very comfortable not harsh or slamming/bumpy at all. I'm about to purchase another set for my new talon build! :) http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...aka-coilovers.html?highlight=Yonaka+coilovers

Going to be running 18x9 +35 BBS LMs with 255/35/18s

I can get the Yonakas for around 500 shipped.

Thanks, I'm gonna give them a shot and see, either way for the price, if they hold up for a year until I can save to get something better I'll be satisfied.

I don't have first hand experience with Yonaka coilovers, but will say the majority of all the "budget" coilovers for 2g's are all basically from the same factory (just pick your paint colour). It really depends on what your doing, as most of these fall under the junk category. If your looking to do anything that requires a good suspension setup I'd look elsewhere but for many DSMers, they'll be more then happy with any of the "budget" coilovers (because, compared to a busted up, worn out, stock suspension anything will "feel like its on rails" ;) ).

^^ That's what everyone says :nono:! to bad the quality of product and spring rating are different and a much higher standard! I don't by junk for my car's! and I would say launching a fwd at 5250 and cutting low 1.7 60's at the track says otherwise to these being junk coilovers! Why don't you guys listen to a real review from a real dsmer whose been at it for 16 some odd years and rocking these coilovers for almost 4 years now with not one issue! If you watch the videos of me racing you can see how well these coilovers handle at the track. My car doesn't squat at all on launch which is key to keeping the power down with a fwd!

To Daren_p: I don't see how yonaka's are junk! I'm making alittle less power than you and fwd and my e.t. Is pretty damn close to yours. And hmm looks like my 60' is killing yours! So not sure where you get off saying yonaka is junk! Seems like what you have is junk cutting 2.0 60' in a awd LOL! I cut better 60' with my stock gvr4 and crap tires haha! I don't know why you guys post when you have no clue! Yonaka is even a canadian company LOL!

I guess that info doesn't have dates, but it was years & years ago (both 1/4 & dyno). That posted track time was done fwd, street rubber, 225/40/18's (& heavy ass 18's at that), hardly an ideal drag setup. That was also not with my current suspension setup, that would have been with Tokico ILK setup. I have not dragged the car in years as I could care less now about drag racing.

Because you can cut good 60's in a drag race does not mean you have a good handling suspension, you can do that on a stock suspension setup. Turn some corners, then tell me how awesome your setup is ;)

In a fwd it does bro! If the suspension wasn't holding good id wheel hop like crazy as I did with the stock suspension. The biggest change I noticed is on launch the suspension holds perfect and doesn't allow my rear to squat and front end to come up therefore loosing traction and a good 60'. And they handle amazing on the corners Kauai has some of the sickest mountain roads I've ever driven on!! So my experience with yonaka's arnt just the drag strip. I was simple stating that if they can handle my car at the track and hold the power down for me there than on the streets is nothing! And like I said already ill be prepping my car for autocross and running the yonaka's then to see just how well they can handle on a road style course. :) I don't see any reason they won't perform as I want since they have done so well the last 3 years on the street/DD. Feels equal to or slightly better (because I do my own alignments and have my own custom specs) than my friends gsx on tein basics my friends evo8 and Sti on tein's!

Show us some skid pad data on these before claiming you "know it all" about suspension. Shock dyno etc etc. 1.7 60's are hardly anything to brag about with a FWD, and yet drag racing is a poor comparison on how a quality suspension setup will handle. Hell some AGX's on drop springs would net similar results in a drag car, yet they're awful for any real twisties.

Like Darren stated, everything feels like its "on rails" when you have nothing worthy to compare it to. Throw an off the shelf set of JIC's, ohlins, or hotbits on there and you'll realize why all the entry level coilovers aren't being run by big name track guys.

Whatever dude low 1.7 60' are def worth bragging about in a 2g fwd most awd guys barely hit those 60'!! I don't see you doing any better! And who ever said I know it all? I'm just giving a review on the coilovers I have since that's the thread topic. So why don't you butt out and get a life!! Skid pad data who gives a crap! I've got real world testing. And who are you to tell me I have nothing worthy to compare things too? And who needs to spend thousands on suspension for a 90's dsm? If you need that much help in your suspension your doing something wrong. And agx on some drop springs will not net the same results dude. I have tons to compare to in real world experience bro! I don't just go around listing names of parts and what I read about it online! You don't seem to be anyone to talk, so not sure why your posting and bothering me. What the hell is your guys problems? I've only owned my dsm's for close to 14 or so years and have been racing them ever since, ya what do I know LOL!

AWD guys barely hit that? We've hit that on multiple accounts on street tires, low boost, and AGX's with GC springs, in a full street weight galant. 1.6's all day. Hell you can do that all day with a 16g on stock suspension, so no 1.7's are still nothing to brag about.

Yes you don't see me doing any better- A) Because I don't care to drag race, I've got an auto to drag and honestly it bores me B)I don't post much of my stuff on here. I'm too busy actually doing things with my DSM's to bother spending countless hours listing what brand of spray paint I used to paint my wheels. I own 4 dsms currently (if you consider a GVR4 a DSM), and have owned countless others I've built and sold off.

You have nothing to compare to in real world. Saying "my car handles on rails" on a mountain road in Hawaii means nothing to anyone, save yourself. Skid pad data IS real world data. You do know what a skid pad is correct?

No, 99% of the people on here (yourself included) don't need thousand dollar suspension, because running 12's can be done on stock suspension. Go take a gander in the road course section, the guys ponying up for the big boy suspension will blow the doors off the yonaka's, why? Because they're not your cheap grade, Taiwanese suspension. They're actually built to perform, not to give the "hellaflush" look. Hell my old tien super streets would destroy yonaka's and the tiens were trash in comparison to a set of bilsteins or ohlins.

This guy wanted reviews on them, my review-they're trash. After 14 years of dsm's i'd think you'd have a greater understanding on them. Maybe not I suppose. :hmm:

I ran 1.7 60 fts all day on my bolt on hx40 and street tires/stpck rims Hoping for 1.4's with slicks and I'm on .70AR hx40 sooooo yeah AWD FTW i couldnt cut better than 1.8 this year due to how shit the suspension was. But i still trap 132mph. 1.7 is decent for fwd, street tires or slicks?

On yeah I'm on all 4 BLOWN KYB AGX also

Replacing with Dennis Grant koni coilovers.

Another possibility is build your own struts and shocks for the rear. I built a set of Bilsein HDs. I made my own strut housings and adapter for the camber plates. The rear were much easier. I used struts from a 3000gt. When I spoke to Wes @ Bilstein they were in the process of making strut housing. If you read anything from Dennis Grant, he really favors Bilsteins. I would put my struts up to anything 2000.00 or less. It cost me less than 1000.00 to build them.

Now that we've ignored those that don't know anything and seem to be better at the talk than the actual walk! To the o.p. if your looking for a nice upgrade to the crappy stock setup and don't feel like spending 1k on suspension for no reason. Than the yonaka coilovers will work great for you. They are much better than all that eBay crap and are actually sold by a reputable shop called yonaka motorsports out of canada. For me on the street and strip these coilovers have out done themselves. The car is very comfortable to drive and handles great in the twisties. Also at the strip it did great holding the power down and helped eliminate wheel hop from my fwd beast. With proper rake and alignment and launching at 5250 with around 10psi boost I was able to cut consistent low 1.7 60' on my qtp's of course, which if anyone who actually knows fwd dsm's is very respectable to do. On street tires and lowering the tire pressure your lucky to cut low 2.0 60'! I'm talking fwd not awd! With there well matched springs and shocks/dampners to get the best ride. I feel the spring rating front and back are perfect for any daily driver and weekend warrior! There is nothing cheap about these coilovers if you ask me. Even after almost 4 years under my car and in the hot and salty Hawaiian air the set still looks and performs like new. Since most of us arnt road racing and need to spend 2-3k on suspension to just daily drive, the yonaka set works great. But what do I know I only have my own shop and set up suspensions for just about all the high end cars here on island as well as cars for the drag strip and autocross/rally and even do custom lift kits and stuff for all us that love the crazy mountain back roads we have here! :) so anyway that's my review on yonaka's since I actually have a set!

Yonaka Black Friday sale 50% off coilovers!! And I see on there site they now offer replacment struts for $80 in case you blow yours out for some reason, that's nice to know you can rebuild them easy! Suspension - Mitsubishi Eclipse 95-99
