Ok I have had an ideal surg problem when I bought the car (4 months or so ago).

I surged after my car warmed up and as long as my foot was off the accelerator and rolling.

Now lately it seems it will surg any time, cold or warm. It will surg when I am stopped now. And in first gear in a parking lot it will buck violently.

Also when I boost (happens intermitinly more so now then it did a month ago) above 10 psi it will fell like a sudden lose of power, then it will go back to full power and then following with lose of power again. The boost gauge reads exactly the same or 2 psi less of what it was before it bogged down. I am thinking it could be related to my surge problem.


I also started to notice that I am blowing smoke when my car is warm. I could turn my car off, then 15 mins later go back out to it and start it and a large buff of smoke will come out. Or at times it will blow random buffs of smoke, again this is only when the car is warmed up. The swear it looks blue, and it smells charred.

I did a boost test at the TB and all was fine. My pcv valve was blowing a lot of air to the valve cover because I herd a lot of air swishing around in there. So I took the tub off the intake manifold and then plugged the thing with my finger. The psi held in the TB.

I tested at the turbo. Again air blew threw the pcv so I plugged that. Only leak I heard was some place around the turbo (in the turbo??) Im not sure what that is about. I was told could be static pressure.

No sound in the dip stick at all. I have one line hooked up to my actuator, is there any other vacuum lines around there that could be leaking?

I tested my ISC with a DVOM and found that all pins where around 28 - 30 ohms.
The 6v battery to test is about 11$ and I don't really want to go spend that yet.


I was having major lifter ticking issues but the other day I took them all out and cleaned them. It has been fine for 3 days now with no ticking :)

any help with my surg issues?
 
What kind of spark plugs are you using, what are they gapped at?
How long were you able to hold 20 psi during your boost leak test?

at the TB i could hold it for some time.

But at the turbo it was around 5-10 psi each time i went to see how much was in there.

It leaked fast. held at around 3 psi for like 10 seconds :)
 
So this is telling us that you've got a boost leak between the Turbo inlet and the throttle body elbow.
Spray down everything between the TB elbow and turbo with soapy water. The more the merrier!
Then run the test again. You'll keep running the test until you have every leak fixed along there. When you're able to hold 20 psi at the gauge for a minimum of 30 seconds, go inside and get yourself a beer. :thumb:
 
Well, I hear it leaking some place around the turbo, not any other place. I can't fell anything or hear anything any other place. So why would I be checking it again if ovisily I heae somthing going on around the turbo?
Wouldn’t it be better for me to make that leak or what ever go away first so I can pin point any other problems easier ?? Sorry im confused.

Also last night I noticed with key on engine on the TB was whistling at normal operating temp. I covered up the BISSS screw top with my finger and the sound reduced significantly. Is it normal for that to be whistling like that?????? I don't seem to remember it doing that before...
