Okay, i just got this car off this kid i know, its a 91 talon tsi. Me and him rebuilt the motor and there's about 1200 miles on it right now. The car ran fine and everything until the other day when i put my evo 3 on and now for some reason it overheats all the time and for some reason every time i get in the damn thing i have to put more coolant in it. Havent done a compression test or anything on it yet but the boost on the 14b was set at 10 (stock) up until 200 miles ago. Now, this is the only thing leading me to believe it IS the headgasket, cause when i leave my car sit, there is no puddle under the car when i move it. Ill drive for a little while and on my logger it will read a normal 199-209 deg, but after a while, it rises up to about 220 230. There is no oil in the coolant or visa versa....i need help! Thanks :talon:

There is a water line running to the evo 3 like a 14b if i remember correctly. You could have bad crush washers or something and that will lose coolant / burn it since the turbo gets so hot. It also could be your HG. Check the little stuff before you go and tear the head off.

well i didnt check the crush washers yet, but i did take my thermostat out and although the car DOES run a whole hell of a lot cooler, im still losing coolant somewhere. I think tomorrow i will look into that whole crush washer thing and if thats not the case there are only 2 other things that it could be. 1. I was reading on here about head install's and how you should re torque the head studs or atleast check them after you drive it a while. or hopefully not 2. Just a bad headgasket. Ill tell ya, if its not one thing its another...seriously, who rebuilds everything in thier car and not even a month later somethin else breaks, from driving NORMAL! :p :talon:

Put the thermostat back in your car.

It's there for a reason.

When you're overheating there is always a set procedure to follow.
1: Radiator Cap
2: Thermostat
3: Coolant lines (check for damage/holes/tears/corrosion/cracks/and all around nastiness)
4: Compression Test
5: Pressure Test

Depending on the results of step 4, step 5 may or may not be needed.

I know having no thermostat will cause the waterpump to work over time but:
1. New rad cap
2. No thermostat...so shouldnt be getting that hot
3. All new coolant lines, went over em today w/ a fine tooth comb
4. What results will i see from a compression test and pressure test if my headgaskets blown?
5. How do i do a pressure test? :p :talon:

Same thing as a boost leak test except using your radiator cap instead of the turbine inlet.
Pressure test will tell you if you're leaking externally and where it's leaking at.

Compression test will tell you if your headgasket is blown and on which cylinder it is bad via your compression psi.
