I just got my new ecu in and the mechanic supposedly checked it out and ran it today, and then my mom drove it home while i was at school and she said there was no cel light, but as soon as i started it up there was a cel light. I havent gotten the codes pulled or anything like that just because it just happen today but i was wondering if there was anything that might cause this because its a new ecu or something. Any help would be great thanks.

Yeah i know, i was just wondering if there was anything that could of happen because it was new, i'm gonna go and try and get the codes pulled tom. They do it at autozone for free right???

Yea get those codes pulled so we know whats up. As far as I know AutoZone does codes for free, but I've never actually got it done. Give 'em a call!

All right couple of things not concerning the ecu directly but kinda weird i think LOL. I don't know if this is totally correct or not but i was looking at the 1g diagram for the engine and it said the radiatorfan was on the left and the a/c fan was on the right. Is it the same on a 2g n/t because my left fan turns on when i have the a/c on and the right fan doesnt turn on for a lil bit then turns on. Also when the fans are on both of them blow cold air back toward the engine and not towards the radiator and i dont remember this being normal with the old ecu. Sorry if i sound stupid but i'm still a newb, but i halfway no wut i'm talkin about but i'm still learning and i'm goin to get the codes pulled tom so i'll let yall know what it is and if anyone has that site for the error codes it would be greatly appreciated because i always have a hard time finding it.
thanks

the fan thing sounds normal. 1 is for the A/C and the other is controlled by the computer and will turn on/off randomly depending on the temp of the engine. It blowing at the engine bay is how it is supposed to be setup. Air is pulled(sucked) through the radiator....then blown at the engine.

When you put a new ecu on your car it was basically like re-setting the ecu and anytime you reset the ecu, your car will not act right for about a couple of days, sometimes a week or so, because your ecu is "learning your car". With your car being a 95 its possible that the new ecu is reading an old sensor and thinking it isn't working properly. I reset my ecu when I put a new battery in and got a cel. I took it and had two cel codes cleared and they haven't come back. If you go to AutoZone they can only read the cel. They can't clear the ecu though, so your probably going to have to take it to a shop and get them to clear the codes for you and see if they come back. If they come back, then you got a problem!
I have the error codes in a book, so if you tell me which one you get I can look it up for you. But I would take and get the codes cleared and see if the problem comes back.

Good luck

Yeah i've heard about the car running weird for a little bit after disconnecting the battery or changing an ecu but i'd never heard a cel coming on, but i will have some free time tom after school for the first time in forever so i'll run it by the mechanic and see if i can get those codes cleared. How long does it take to get the codes cleared(like what all do you have to do)? And thanks about the fans 2 I think my radiator fans was messed up before because I hardly ever even remember it coming on but thanks for your patience and help and i'll let ya kno if everything turns out all right.
thanks

All right, i drove to school today, about 10 miles. Then i drove home then back to school No problems but the cel light was still on. Then i had to take my friend home which is about 10 miles away too. I figure i'll try and reset the ecu when i get there and if it doesnt turn off the cel than i'll take it up to autozone have the codes pulled, drive it home then find the codes and take it to the mechanic in the morning. Well i get to my friends house and about 100 feet before his houise it dies, so i'm like WTF and turn it off and check the engine and try and crank it 1 more time and it does the same thing it did before i got the ecu it sounds like its gonna crank but it never turns over. So i roll it down to his house disconnect the negative terminal for a lil bit then connect it back together. I turn the key and it turned over but then it just died again, so i tried it one more time, and it did the same thing, and one last time and it did the same thing it did before but it never turned over. I get out and look at some stuff and pull the spark plugs out to see if i'm getting spark and there is oil all over the first wire, but there is none on any of the other wires but there is oil in the well so please tell me what happened.

Oh, i forgot to mention that my oil pressure light came on but i couldnt tell if it was because i had just turned the car off or because i lost oil pressure but i'm guessing it was the first since theres a pool of oil in my plug wells. Damn, everytime i think everythings good something goes wrong i'm goin crazy.

so basicly.. you had a CEL and a oil idiot light, ignored them both and drove it anways and now it wont start ? -- stil get the CEL pulled, reseting it is about the stupidest thing ya could have done. It was on for a reason clearing it wont tell you anything.

The reason I said clear them was to see if there is a real problem. They will come back if there is! I've had two codes come on after a reset and had them cleared and been running fine now for about 10k mikes. (knock on wood). I agree resetting it was not a good idea, but I managed to save several dollars of repair cost by clearing the codes. It was just a suggestion. If you go to a mechanic it costs about 40 bucks and about 10 minutes of your time (if you get a mechanic that will do it right away). Definitley get them checked when they come on.
But apparantly there is a bigger issue than the ecu now!

No, i didnt ignore either of them. My next stop was autozone and my mechanic is like 2 seconds aways from that, but one of my best friends needed a ride home or he would of been stuck at school until his brother came to pick him up at six and i wasnt gonna leave him up there. Then the car died about 100 feet from his house, and thats when the oil pressure light came on i think. The car died and the oil pressure light came on after the car had died. I didnt drive it after that, driving w/ the cel on was dumb but i had no other choice. There was no other car i could take. Also another thing i noticed is when i leave the key in but dont try and turn it over the cel blinks on and off. Is this normal? The only reason i tried cranking it is because when the ecu was goin bad it did the exact same thing so i didnt think twice to try and start it again, but thanks and do you have any idea what happened w/ the ecu or the oil?

I didn't think you said the oil light came on until the car died. Driving with the cel light on is something to be all that worked up about. I mean yeah get it checked out, but I've had cel lights on cars for a while. I mean at least you were headed that way! The weird thing is with the oil. Thats what I can't understand. You'll have to keep me posted on the outcome of that. Didn't you say you had a non-turbo?! I know the non-turbo models have will flash the error code. I think when you turn the key off and on several times, the cel light will blink a certain # of times and it will give you the code. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think I heard that somewhere. I know it won't work on my gs-t.

I must correct myself. A cel code isn't all that to get worked up about. Don't ignore it. But it doesn't exaclty mean anything catastrophic!

Yeah i know. The whole cel thing is weird. Before i got the new ecu put in it would do the same thing but different. It would die, and if i turned the key on but not turn the car over the cel light would blink, but then if i let it sit for like 20 minutes the car would start right up and no cel, then it would drive a little bit, the longer i let it sit the longer it would run after that, then it would die and the cel would do the same thing. Now when i got the car back my mom drove it home and didnt notice a cel, LOL thats not sayin much, but i figure atleast the mechanic wouldn't give me a car with cel. As soon as i turn it over the cel comes on so i park it and take the astro van LOL. Then the car dies when i'm on my way to autozone and the mechanic. This is when the oil light came on but i couldnt tell if it came on before it died or after, because doesnt your oil light come on when the cars off but the keys turned? So i'm not sure about that but there was a lot of oil in the plug wells. This time when i turned the key over it did the same thing the cel blinked on an off. Also i had my positive terminal pretty much melt a couple of weeks ago. Could a wire short out or melt and ground to the wrong thing because of the hood short?? And i'll be sure to let you know how it goes and the car is at the mechanic right now and i'll call him tom and see whats up and thanks for stickin with me and for the help.

does the cel have a specific pattern of blinking, like every 1 or 2 second or is it more random like 2 blinks pause 3 blinks pause 2 blinks ect

um to tell you the truth i dont particulary remember but i'm pretty sure it was 1 sec blink 1 sec off. It blinked on an off the same amount of time. I"m not totally sure but fairly.

Well i got my car back from the mechanic today and no cel, and everything was running fine. I drove home around 10 miles then i drove up to my school for a soccer game and it died like 100 feet from the school. All the electronics stayed on(lights and stuff) and the rpms went all the way down to zero and then the power steering cut out etc. So i pull in and it starts right back up so i make it to school. Then when i'm leavin I clean out my spark plug wells because it was hesitating a lil bit and theres still a lot of oil in the first plug well but i'm guessin that might be a cracked valve cover. Then decide to try and get home and it does the same thing, and it cranks right back up. So i make it to a parking lot and turn the car off and check the oil and look around and stuff. Then i check the ecu codes and i get a 12, 25, and i'm almost positive 42 came up twice. I checked for the 1g but i dunno kno if there the same so if you have the codes turboaxe i'd much appreciate it. Also this time i had no cel while i was driving it just did this when the car was off. It went off and then did the whole blinking thing so i could take the codes. If anybody could tell me whats going on it would be awesome. Thanks

i just checked

12 - is that the power has been disconnected within the last 50 key turn on cycles so i'm guessin thats because of the new ecu being put in.

25- is ether target idle not reached or Idle air control motor circuit My idle has been a lil bit higher lately so i'm guessin thats not it, and it could be a vacuum leak, so how do you do a vacuum test.

42 - mfi relay so i have to check the fuel pump relay, no mfi relay output voltage at pcm, check the mfi relay, Fuel pump relay control circuit, check fuel pump relay.

This is what i figured out from myself looking around, so could somone fairly new to these cars do all this or should i seek profesional help or are any of these diagnoses wrong. Also it could be the wiring harness which could be a ver likely possibility because i melted my + battery terminal from a hood short a pretty good while ago. So let me know about everything if you have and ideas or suggestions.
thanks

I just got cauht up. I was checking my email and saw the post. I will check those code errors too and if I come up with the same thing I can try and help you figure it out. Hang tight and I'll check and see what the codes say. I thinking right off though. Fuel pump relay, and there is a way to check that. I'll get back with you soon!

All right thanks man, that will help out out a lot. So this time maybe i'll do it myself and not pay for my mechanic.
