hello fellow dsm'ers...just a question. would you buy another awd dsm if it only needed an ecu?:aha: with my predicament, i have a 94 that had a boo boo from last owner, and its really draggin me down, sitting in my garage.:cry: it needs a front bumper, fender, and front right suspension/wheel bearings and axle replaced. this car was only 1200 bucks (i know, shoulda passed, but parts alone are worth it!) and this 92 (black tsi awd) is only 1200 bucks. it only needs an ecu WTF(or so he says) to run. it has koni adjustables, 16g, 3" dp and exhaust, rebuilt tranny and other goodies on it as well. so, would you buy it and drive it while you part out/pick a part the other? i would...but trying to get the wife to let me have another car while i still have one. that would put 4 cars at our house...:sneaky:

that is what i thought when i bought my first car...then i found more and more stuff wrong. im deff going to ask the guy if i could drive it with my ecu in it. and check everything over three times. i only checked stuff over once in my car...stupid me.

How is a wrecked 94 worth $1200 in parts?

I paid $300 for my 93 parts car... body was mint but it needed a transmission. I've made about $50 profit off it. Not even worth the space it's taken up on my 2 acres of land for the past year and a half.

Then again I traded the motor for $100 and a full set of TSi sideskirts, wing, and taillights, and brand new window trim (just the door belt molding is worth $150). So yeah I guess it's worth it. But I still don't see $1200...
 
It's only a deal if you can take your 94 ecu, plug it into the other car, and run it. Then add in the price of rgistration/title-transfer, plates, etc..., and a couple hundred bucks for new timing belts and whatever-else is missing/broken when you do the belt-job. Never trust anyone when they tell you that belt is new.

So, yeah, if your ecu makes that car run, then it is a good deal. Otherwise, he probably took out the ecu and hid it in his house so there's no way for you to find out that, in reality, the engine has no compression or oil pressure, or 6 bent valves.
 
yeah my ecu is accessible, it in fact is just hanging on the cables on the passenger floor, since my car isnt plated, and sans bumper and right fender. but i do have an eprom ecu in it that looks mint, so im sure it would work to pop in my ecu into the car. hope thats all it needs. this buy has been trying to sell this car since june. its end of december, and he hasnt realy budged on price much. he wanted 1800 for it back in june, but wife says i have to sell other car first...but i wanted to swap out interiors and other things i want from my beater parts car. anyone know of a good boneyard in san diego area for dsm cars/parts?
