right now I plan on selling my 95 RS with a few mods to get a 1st gen GSX or GST. My question is, is it possible to tow a small trailer for my dirtbike with one? The max weight of the trailer and bike combined would be around 500 pounds at most. My only other option is to buy a truck :barf: which would be really lame.

Installation was a breeze. Took about 45 minutes and that was including removing and reinstalling my cat-back. Can't wait to try it out. :)

Now, has anyone bought a hitch mounted motorcycle rack? Because thats what I want. I don't want to tow a trailer behind my car, but I would like to save the tag and insurance money on another vehicle by just towing my 250lb dirt bike on the back of the gsx. I think that would require a 2" receiver though...hmm

My 99 had one on it when I bought it. The drawtite 33061 I think with ball mount 36065... I've stood on it and bounced a little bit and at that time I was 180 or so and it felt solid. The P/O used it for his bicycle. I've towed a Seadoo XPL on a single place waverunner trailer with no problems. I've also towed a Yamaha WaveBlaster on a 1 place for 2 hours... no problems. I bought a 6'x10' basic single axle trailer and towed that an hour home. It's come in handy a few times.

That would really be questionable. No manufacturer has ever offered a 2" hitch for a DSM. And the 1.25" hitch has a tongue weight of 200 lbs. I'm pretty confident that the 200 lb. rating is very conservative and that it would handle more, but you're only playing with fire when exceeding manufacturer recommendations. I'd be affraid to hang much more than 250 lbs off of it. If I were you, I'd pony up and get a small trailer. I think you'll be happier with a set-up like that.

And just because I'm a picture whore, here's a few recents. It really helped me recently when I had to move. :)

The owners manual says no towing, but i don't think they intended to have evo turbo's, rebuilt motors, and front mounts either. Once you put even cold air intake on a car, throw out the manual and make the car your own :)

I've never deal with a trailer hitch before, but where would that mount to under neath and how much of a pain are there to install and remove. I'm now contemplating between a hitch like that or making a roof rack work to cart around my mountain bike.

It's a very quick and easy install. 30 minutes MAX after the first time. The Drawtite model bolts up using the existing bolt holes for the bumper mounts on the frame rails. So only 5 bolts to go on or off, and it's mounted to the strongest portion of the rear end. I'd highly recommend this hitch, but they're going to be very difficult to find these days. I got lucky finding mine when I did.

You think towing a small popup camper would work? Nothing mind blowing fancy but just a basic camper.

So I kept going through old trucks to tow my boat and got sick of it and decided to put a hitch on something more reliable :sneaky: ... My car is a 97 GST converted to AWD 4 years ago and a 6 bolt I build about 5 years ago. I have a hybrid TD05H turbo and the stock 7.8:1 pistons/rods/bottom end/head. I have a video of me pulling the boat out of the water without too much effort. I have a stock drivtrain with ACT 2600 clutch. Ive taken my boat out about 6-8 times now and the car is holding up just fine. My buddy thats on the Florida State Wakeboard Team with me took a video of me pulling the boat out and ill try to post that later. The trip to the lake is about 20 min and the boat weights 2440lbs. Also I stiffened my rear knoi shocks to full stiff when im towing and I have slotted rotors with Hawk pads.

Ive had a 2000 Ford F150 a 1995 Nissan pickup and a 1993 Toyota pickup and so far this is most comfortable i have been towing the boat.

Well as long as you realize that all you are doing is reducing the lifespan of your drive train, carry on.

my tranny is a fresh rebuild about 3 months old and my transfer case is about 3 weeks old. I got a year left of college hopfully my stock crap holds up to this. After that it wont be my daily anymore and I will go shep!

It doesn't matter, there is a reason trucks use the gearing and torque outputs that they do.
