Would a head gaket do this?

I want to buy this GSX from this guy and he said that 3 of the 4 cylinders has compression issues. he wants to tell me that it is the head gadket and that there is indeed oil inside the coolant. Also, what could happen to an engine if it hasnt been on for a year or so?

Does anyone know of any good DSM shops here in Austin, TX?

Oil in the coolant is usually a headgasket issue, but not all blown head gaskets adversely affect the compression. If compression is affected, it can also be cracked cylinder walls, bent valves or bad piston rings.

Oil in water on my first thought is a busted head. Especially coupled with bad compression. If nothing else is hurt you can find a head easily enough in here in the classifieds. It might cost you 50.00 to have it pressure tested, but it is worth the effort as you will nail down the problem. Now, once you decide to make this repair, I would be curious as to what caused it. Make sure you find the cause of the problem and not just fix the result. Do check all the things that can cause the problem. I would like to see the compression numbers to compare.

If the head is the only issue, I wouldn't be too awfully concerned.

Good Luck

Well I do have a working 7 bolt that is not affected by crankwalk, and I have another 2g heard laying around also. I was thinking that I could just replace the gasket, and if that doesnt fix it, I could check the valves, and if those are fubar, then i could engine swap it with the one that I have that works. Does that sound like a good idea?
