Would a cyclone be worth this price.

Ok I have a chance to buy a complete 4g63 JDM Cyclone Engine.
The engine has about 40,000 miles on it has been tested and said to run perfect.
I currently have a 99 GS-T with a 1st gen swap done to it believed to be locked up.

My question is they want $1800 for the complete engine including the ecu.
Does this seem way to high priced it will be getting shipped from North Carolina So part of the $1800 is the shipping cost. I haven't been able to determine if it has the yellow or blue injectors yet I will find that out soon.

Thanks any input would be great.

i personally think that a bit high fora stock motor, but if it comes will all sensors, turbo, manis, ecu (which you said), and wiring harness, it makes it a little more worth it. And that includes shipping!
But thats just my opinion.
Can they prove the mileage on the motor?

You can build your existing block yourself with performance parts for under $1800, and it will have '0' miles when it's done.

As far as proving the mileage they say they have pictures of the car it came out of and pictures of the engine in the car.

As far as building my own. My question would
be what type of build would be best for around the $1800 mark.

Realistically, he can't. I've never seen any total assembly noob assemble a successful bottom end that lasted. Bad idea IMO.

It's a Tuners Sublimal Advertisment for do the research, garner the tools, and make the attempt!

If you're looking for an expensive stock block, go for it. Watch the classifieds on here. Good build blocks go for <$2000 all the time.

Thats the normal pricing for an engine. But you can rebuild your current setup. Rebuild your head and have it running again for that price. The JDM Cyclone engine is just an old ass engine. The Cyclone and 1g style head don't give any additional increase vs an actual Evo3/2G Intake/Head setup.

As far as your "lockup". It could be piston rings or rod/main bearings. So a rebuild would fix this. But you cannot cut the stock crank. So if you damaged the crankshaft, you will have to replace that. I'd honestly (If I were you) rip it apart, locate whats seized and go from there. Have the crank inspected. Local shop here will inspect a crank for free, not sure what you got going on at your place. Boreing and honing is pretty cheap if you need to go that route. Your rods hopefully are good and can be re used.

You can easily get away with rebuilding your current setup for that much money. Besides that you can find 1g engines all over for like 500 bucks. I just got lucky and picked up a fully built 2.0 91 6bolt long block with MHI 16g and 450cc injectors, complete engine. For 400 bucks from a shop that picked it up somehow and didn't know exactly what was in it and what it was worth.

+1, What This guy says. I've looked through the classifieds here and found some nice engines for good prices. But don't make any mistakes, look at the sellers feedback and history on the forums before purchase.

I would rebuild what you have. Don't trust those JDM importers on mileage, they really have no idea. You could get away with a decent build for that kind of cash.

I would never trust a bottom end without machinist receipts and knowing for sure that the person who assembled it knew wtf they were doing. The consequences of failure being more costly.

Everyone I've seen thats been posted up have receipts and even one of the guys was going to give the original packages for all the parts inside the block.

Wow your a pleasant person!:D

I have worked on engine for many years just not these 4 cylinders. I guess I will build my own and prove you wrong. LOL

Thanks everyone for the info.
Looks like the rebuild of the dirt mod is getting put on hold.

The JDM motor is the same one you have in your car already minus a couple minute differences that any simple build would replace.

It's nothing personal against you, and certainly not a personal attack. I'm just stating from my experience, your average enthusiast doesn't possess the knowledge and skill required. Machine work and engine assembly is a whole different world compared to just wrenching. Of course I'm assuming that if you had those skills you would have already gone in that direction.

Again, I'm not bashing your or anything just trying to save you time and money. I consider myself competent doing moderate tasks like engine R&R, and I wouldn't attempt to prep and build my own bottom end.

It's all good man. Sometimes I don't trust myself. I was just trying to save time mainly.

The main reason for doing it myself is I live in Fargo ND. We don't have any local builders here in town that work on these cars.
