1990 Eclipse GST, 5 speed, all stock.

Trying to adjust the TPS, When I get to a certain point while adjusting, I can try and WOT in neutral and nothing happens.. the RPMS fall and the car starts to die. 80% throttle good, 30% good.. ANYTHING but WOT is good

I have also searched and some people say it could be the speedometer cable? I noticed my speedometer is very jumpy.

Also, when this happens, I can hear a click happening under the dash board (near the ECU) and the CEL comes on and goes back off in a few seconds. Is it maybe a blown fuse?

I am stumped...

Any help appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Mark.

pull your ecu and check the caps for a leak, also your speedometer cable will have nothing to do with wot unless its binding the throttle cable some how. but im pretty sure its your ecu. do you smell something like coolant inside your cab at times?

I think so!

How bad is it replacing the caps?

if you can solder then you can change um. go to roadraceengineering and they have the kit for like 7 bucks. just take your time with removing the old solder cause you can over heat the board and damage it.

Hmm, supposably the ECU I have is brand new and the caps have already been replaced..

The guy mentioned it maybe being the MPI Relay?

How does that sound?

hmmm i dunno about that one could be though but seriously i wouldnt take his word for it, cause even if it is new the caps from the dealer cant take the high heat and would eventually melt again. just try opening it up and looking at it, if you search on here there are pictures of what a leaky cap will look like

Alright

I just removed the ECU and looked at it

Looks brand new inside, no signs of any leakage

I replaced the MPI Relay just in case and still the problem occurs... I have also noticed that the clicking noise is coming directly from the MPI Relay

But when I go to WOT the pedal to the ground, I can hear a POP in the intake pipe and the motor just "shuts off" kind of.. as soon as I let off of the gas it catches itself..

What all could cause the MPI relay to "click" during WOT and the car to "shut off"?

Too much fuel?
Not enough fuel?
02 Sensor?
Fuel filter looks good as well...

ACK I am stumped!!

check the voltage across the mpi relay and that loud pop in your intake could be a backfire from running to lean

You notice it happen only at a certain RPM or is it just anytime you go WOT? What about boost levels? does it only happen when its under so much boost at all?
