420A wont start just cranks

it could be the oil you have. cold weather + warm weather oil do not mix at all. is it slow cranking? try getting some thinner oil, I'm from Wisconsin so that's a common problem I've dealt with....

EDIT: somethin i just rememberd to say, before you replace your oil check your coil pack, and plugs make sure your getting spark.

if no spark check for poor connection.

if you have spark and the other things dont work, check your compression

do any major mods recently?

had the same issue today.. It was warm last day and today cold!!!! car would not start just cranked.. Jumped the car and no issues, hope it will do the job for you!

the battery is a optima red top and its good i did have to jump it though i checked for spark and i saw some and i could smell some fuel but im not shure maybe it could be the oil im not shure my cars never seen wheather colder than like 50* but it ran fine yesterday and the next morning it would not fire i shoul have cleared that up in the posting:ohdamn:

the gas just means you've dumped a good amount of fuel into the cylinder that didnt ignite, or your running rich. (replacing a old airfilter usually fix's this on the eclipse, that or a open air box mod.)

well if you get it started it will surely die right away with the intake off since dsms are wierd and the MAF or what you call MAS isnt connected to your throttle body like the hondas...

WELL THERES YOUR PROBLEM RIGHT THERE! (says in a country accent) the 420a should be 170-225 psi! that is way low, youve got a blown or damaged gasket, or loose head, or valve cover or something.?! thats way low!...wait....

did you crank it 5 times? your suppose to crank it 5 times for each cylinder. (common mistake)

mitsubishi98gs, make sure that you performed the compression test properly. Gas pedal fully depressed, crank until the needle on the pressure gauge doesn't go any higher (usually about 7 or 8 cranks). Ideally, your compression should be somewhere between 160-180 per cylinder.

Do a leakdown test if your compression comes out that low again.

ive been doing it by the book for ever, and in school ive always been told 5 cranks. if you get 180 on 7 cranks then something is still wrong because thats low. should be 170-225 WITH 5 CRANKS ONLY!!. if they wanted you to do more then 5 cranks then the compression woulds be higher. it would be more like 230-275. every book or guide or maneuel or what ever you will ever look at will say 5 cranks because it is a standard. to keep all cars the same with in a general rule of compression.

Thanks guys ill try that and repost i did not press the gas pedal and I dont remember how many times i cranked it but the head gasket is only like two years old and is a MLS from napa. It could be my cheap compression tester from Harbor Freight. I dont know but I have a feeling it is some kind of sensor or something????

unless its electronic or is leaking its close to impossible for these to be inaccurate.... where you got it from shouldn't matter. or how much you paid.

Ok so i did a compression test and it was good then i decided too check for spark on a different cyliner and I only have spark on cilinders two and three very little and so i thought the coil was done so i went and got a new one and still the same thing anyone have any ideas thanks!!

connections?? idk im the dizzy guy, i barely know anything about coilspacks.

when you checked the spark did you make sure you had a good ground connection? hold the threads against something metal like mount brackets or somesomethin.
