With this set up can I run 400hp reliably on a fwd?

Hello I have a 1995 talon tsi fwd and I was wondering with these mods that I am getting can I safely put down 400whp as a dailydriver. I'm getting a jdm 6bolt swap, ngk plug and wire set , forged pistons and ring kit with a 8:5:1 ratio, I'm staying with the stock 6 bolt rods and bearings, EVO3 16G turbo ported, ported 02 housing, block bored 20 over, greddy fmic, greddy upper ic kit, hks 272/264 combo cams, act 2600clutch, act lightened flywheel, and for tires I chose falkens, also I am upgrading fuel to 4 650cc injectors, a walbro 255hp pump and safc2. I currently have a custom 3inch turbo back exhaust with no cat and I am using the greddy e-01 boost controller. I would like input and if I am missing anything. My goal is 400whp and a street/ track car for a daily driver.

You'll be pushing the limits of that turbo, Id consider DSMLInk instead of the SAFC, especially since you have a 95 which most likely means you have an EPROM ECU.

Also You'll need to get an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator (AFPR) because that 255lph pump will overrun your factory fpr. Also dont bother getting a "JDM" 6-bolt, just get a regular USDM 6-bolt, if your going to build an engine for it, there really isnt much difference b/w the usdm and jdm motors.

The shop that i am going through only gets jdm blocks they are charging me $1500.00 for the block and i want jdm anyway cause i am a jdm fan. You say i will need a fpr for that fuel pump?

That's for the longblock not just the bottom end so it's a full engine. I am a newbie here and i have to watch how i word things.

i dont know if i would run those big cams on a stock head...you might also want to change the turbo like someone stated and also built a few other things before you slap race stuff in it...

btw...those 272 cams will kill any gasmileage you will have

I am going with the evo3 big 16g. I wanted to obtain 400hp but i don't want the turbo do do all the work so i was shooting for the motor to be decent with the over bore and forged pistons and the race shop here recomended the 264/272 hks cam setup. They said 264 on intake and 272 on the exaust makes it easier for them to tune. Everyone raves about the evo 16g turbo so i wanted to start there and if i need more then i will upgrade to a bigger turbo.

Also if you are going with the e3 16g I would run an external wastegate because that turbo has extreme boost creep, that is the same turbo I am running and even after I ported it I had boost creep so I am going with the o2 housing external wastegate. You may want to look into that.

Listen to the people here with more knowledge than you...get a bigger turbo. It will be VERY hard to get to 400whp on the Evo. The motor doesn't have much to do with creating the power, unless you're going high-compression (not a good idea). Plenty of people use the 264/272's with stock head, though it might be a good idea to upgrade springs and retainers.

I mean with that setup will i be close to 400whp? I mean i am happy with 350-360 if i can get that. It doesn't have to be dead at 400whp but if i can get close to it then im happy i figure on a fwd car without a lsd thats the most i would want to go anyway right?

350hp on a FWD equals crazy torque steer, just hang onto that wheel when you hit the gas man, trust me.

350 WHP is alot more realistic, with an EVO3. That should be achievable with out to much hassle.

Well there is alot to cover here. Ill do my best to get things straightened out.

This is silly. Whats wrong with your motor? What is the reason to upgrade the whole longblock assembly? The stock block has proven it can put down good numbers without failure provided the proper tuning and monitoring is applied. There is no reason to spend this kind of money now. You also listed "bored 20 over". You are going to take apart a good compression longblock, bore it and reinstall new pistons etc? Things aerent making that much sense here. If there is nothing wrong with your motor, then keep it till something is. When the time comes, there are better routes to go with than buying a unnescescary "JDM" longblock. If you have more questions, I can elaborate here.

Choosing the 264/272 combo over straight 272s shouldnt have anything to do with the "ease of tuning". You dont have to degree them and they perform right out of the box. Since you plan on upgrading to a bigger turbo down the road anyways, you had mind as well just go this route. The more agressive cams respond much better to larger turbos. There are also other cam choices but we wont go there right now. Contrary to what people just told you, 272s will be just fine with a stock head and dont require elevated spring pressures.

You should not see any creep running 20-22 psi on a solid pumpgas tune. Porting can fix the little if any he would see. Externals dont always fit into everybodys plans/budgets.

The E16G is more around a 300+ whp turbo on pump gas with few a supporting mods. It is a very capable and versatile turbo that has seen 400hp and 11second timeslips, but thats on fully built cars running 30psi and obviously, race gas. People will also tell you that smaller turbos for FWD cars aerent very desireable because their quick spool can induce lots of lower rpm wheel spin, thus killing acceleration. The lag gives the car time to get a little speed going before the drop of the boost hammer. FWD cars are best from a roll anways. I would personally consider getting one of the many TO4E 50trim variants. But, once again, there are other choices. They have much better pump gas numbers that are closer to your goal and they also have much better FWD driveability characteristics.

Going with the 255 will definitley require you to get an adjustable FPR. It will overrun the stock regular and cause a whole host of problems.

I would reccomend this also. Running just an AFC w/out a logger and a chip can create some restrictions. Some people swear by the AFC/PocketLogger/Chip combo because they have used it and made good power with it. I personally wouldnt go this way. DSM-Link is comprehensive program that inculdes the best of all worlds in a easy, user friendly manner. If you already have an EPROM you are one step closer.

Well the issue that caused me to get a new motor is i blew my 7bolt at 120mph so it's toast. I figured while i had the 6bolt swap going on i might as well do as much as i could. For now im looking for balance in my car a good solid car and i like doing highway rolls and that sort of thing so i wanted to start out with the evo3 turbo because i hear so many rave about it. I mean i am trying to get as close to 400whp as i can so if i can hit 350whp- about 370whp im fine with that. I figure i can work on shaving weight and suspension next and have a pretty decent car. I want sho and go so eventually i will do the external stuff but i wanted to focus on performance first then looks later.

i have 396fwhp and 401fwt and its a blast. tourqe steer like crazy but get teh sbr lsd insert and problem solved. thats all i did. have fun and hopefully you hit 400 whp on the e316g i have the same turbo but the "gt" and i had the turbo you have. the difference between the two imo is nite and day. the gt takes mad abuse from me and my low boost is 18psi and my high boost is 24psi. i also have built 6 bolt block so enjoy i know that i am.

run a 20g get dsm link set up and all the other mods you stated above and if you tune it properlly then youll meet your goal.

with those same mods but a 50trim or somthing along those lines youll make way more power. Why dont you just take an engine out of some wrecked car since your planning a rebuild? $1500 is way to steep. you can buy a complete high performance rebuild kit including a crank,rods,pistons,hp bearings, an oil pump and all your seals an gaskets for $1700. So basically if your going to build a motor you should get some clunker for like $100. and with over 400whp your track times wont be spectacular unless your gonna get slicks or drag radials.

I am going to eventually upgrade the turbo but i want to learn to drive on the 16g before upping it. Im looking for a really balanced car that can run with the best on the highways I don't want to jump to a 20g off the bat cause i hear how fun the 16gs are. I am learning a great deal and i got accepted to UTI in Il for auto tech so one day i plan to tune and build my own stuff but as of right now i can do minor work only. However i am open to learn and I am really excited about these forums and I spend most of my work day online reading these forums.

Is the lsd insert really expensive?

Do a search on LSD... You don't want an insert on a daily driver. Get a true LSD they run about $1000 but it'll last where the insert won't!

The Sbr lsd insert is 150 dollars. Extreme Psi has them for sale if your interested. Like JohnFSmith stated a true Lsd will by far last longer in the long run, but for 1000? Ill take my chances
