Wiseman Help!!!!!!!New bearings on a 1998 gs-t crankshaft

Wanted to know if someone ran into this problem about rebuilding an engine 1998 gs-t . I have the new 3 flange stlye thrust bearing also I saw in the manual that you have to measure the outer diameter of the crankshaft and confirm its classification from the table.
I understand this but when you order them from someone all they say is what year is your car and thats it, What about the classification, because that matters on bearing sizes? Anybody can help me with this?

have you ordered them from the dealer? For 7-bolt engines, they'll ask for your VIN which they use to determine what size bearing you should get.

or they may ask for the color code on the bottom of the block.

If you order bearings from an aftermarket supplier, They will not ask about the "classification" of your bearings. All they know is bearings are bearings and they are all the same for a particular year. Unfortunately, this is not really true. In order to get the proper bearings for your particular engine, you need to go to the dealer. As already stated, the will either ask for your vin or your color code.

Thanks man, I was thinking the same thing , just wanted to make sure about, just want to build the engine one time. Also If I order them and the machine shop has to gind down the crank at all I am screwed, all they can do is micro polish it correct?

If the crank is is good shape with no gouges or excessive wear, the will polish it. If it was victim to low oil pressure or a spun bearing, then it would ne to be reground. If that is the case, you have 2 choices. 1) Purchase a replacement crank 2) purchase new bearings and have the crank ground to match the new undersize bearings.
